Defending champion PV Sindhu stormed into the women’s singles quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships badminton tournament by defeating Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong in straight games on Thursday. The world No. 7 Indian defeated the No. 10 Thailand player 21-14 21-18 in a 48-minute pre-quarterfinal match.

Earlier this month, Pornpawee had also defeated Sindhu at the All England Championships in March before defeating Sindhu in a group match of the BWF World Tour Finals.
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, will take on top seed and world number one Tai Chu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals, who showed her way out of Scotland’s Christy Gilmore 21-10 19-21 21-11. Sindhu made a good start and soon took a 5-1 lead but Pornpawee reduced the score to 4-5. Sindhu then showed a better game by scoring 15-10 and then 19-11 to win the first game easily.
The second game saw a tough fight but Sindhu started well to take a 3-0 lead and was ahead 11-6 till the break. After this, many long rallies were seen in which the player of Thailand scored many points. Sindhu was ahead 16-10 but Pornpawi returned to make the score 18-19. Sindhu scored 20-18 after collecting points after a long rally and then won the next point and won the game and the match.
Sindhu, who got a bye in the first round, defeated Slovakia’s Martina Repiska 21-7 21-9 in the second round on Tuesday.
