Prannoy did not get much challenge from Liu in the first game. The Indian player won eight consecutive games 8-5 to score 16-5 and easily won the game. The second match was more competitive and both the players were once tied 6-6 but after that Prannoy did not lag behind at any time and took a 16-11 lead.
The Malaysian narrowed the gap, but Prannoy soon took the lead at 19-16 and then won the second game and the match. Meanwhile, in women’s doubles, the pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy have also reached the pre-quarterfinals. They defeated the Chinese pair of Liu Zhuan Zhuan and Xia Yu Ting 21-11, 9-21, 21-13 in three games in the second round match.
In men’s doubles, Indian pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila lost 11-21, 16-21 to 11th seeded Russian pair of Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sazonov. This match lasted for 41 minutes.
