People participated and shared their suggestions with great enthusiasm. In this entire process, the government got maximum suggestions from focusing. on the economic progress of Delhi and creating new employment opportunities for the youth of Delhi. The youths of Delhi, businesspersons, industrialists, entrepreneurs among others suggested various ways in which the economy of Delhi can be boosted up and new jobs can be created. The Delhi government is evaluating the suggestions received and wherever possible will work to incorporate these suggestions in its policies.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said that the economy of Delhi has slowed down due to demonetisation and the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the prolonged lockdown, businesses have come to a standstill, to bring the economy back on track and out of recession, suggestions were sought from the people of Delhi for the upcoming budget. This was done because, according to Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, businessmen and industrialists have a better understanding of how to take the business and industrial sector forward. Businessmen and industrialists also have the understanding of how to create new jobs and the youth have new ideas about creating employment opportunities.

It has been the policy of the Kejriwal government that not only a few people sitting in the government should contribute to the making of the budget and take decisions about it, but everyone who will be impacted by the budget should contribute in its making. This participation of the people is the basis of the progress of Delhi. Also, the initiatives taken by the Delhi government in the field of education, health and infrastructure in the last few years will create new employment opportunities in the coming times. As a result of this in the past 6 years, not only has the per capita income of Delhi has increased, but Delhi’s contribution to the country’s GDP has also increased. Today the population of Delhi is only 1.49% of the total population of the country but the contribution of Delhi in the country’s GDP is 4.4%.

Finance Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said that the Central Government itself has acknowledged in its report that Delhi is the most innovative state when it comes to economic progress. According to the Economic Survey 2022, Delhi has become the start-up capital of the country and start-ups are being given maximum attention here. In Delhi, the youth are not being trained to be job seekers but job providers and from here the way for the economic progress of Delhi and the country will emerge.

Suggestions received from people for “Delhi Budget 2022-23”:

By creating a new special economic zone in Delhi, industry and trade should be given subsidies, spaces at concessional rates, etc. This will create a large number of new employment opportunities. This special economic zone should also be tied up with various professional government and private universities so that there is no shortage of skilled and talented workforce for the industry.

Unskilled freshers are one of the major reasons for unemployment. Having skills is very important for any job. To tackle this problem, the government should give apprenticeships to the freshers through its various portals. With this, upskilling can be done by giving opportunities to the youth who want to work to learn.

Delhi should be developed as an IT hub by establishing various IT parks. This will not only attract IT companies to invest in Delhi, but it will also increase the employment opportunities in the capital. This will help boost Delhi’s economy.

Many companies of the world do not set up their manufacturing units in India because they think that there is no skilled labour in the country. In such a situation, the government in Delhi should start such a program where unskilled workers can upskill themselves to meet the demands of the industry.
