F&S Minister directed officers to take strict action as per law against erring ration dealers
Kejriwal Government has extended the period for free ration supply to the beneficiaries for another six months upto May 2022- Imran Hussain

Food & Civil Supplies Minister Shri Imran Hussain conducted a surprise inspection of Fair Price Shops(FPSs) in Kasturba Nagar assembly constituency today. He checked the smooth distribution of free ration under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY) to the beneficiaries. During the inspection Shri Madan Lal, MLA Kasturba Nagar, Dy. Commissioner(F&S) Assistant Commissioner (F&S), Food & Supplies Officer and enforcement team also accompanied the Minister.
During the visit, the Food & Supplies Minister personally examined the quality and stock of ration at Fair Price Shops. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of ration available in the ration shops and asked the ration shopkeepers to distribute good quality food grains to the beneficiaries. The Minister directed F&S officers to take strict action as per law against erring ration dealers who do not open shop regularly, collect the cost of foodgrains illegally, distribute less than stipulated quantity of ration or indulge in any malpractices such as diversion of foodgrains, hoarding, black-marketing, short dispensing of ration, misbehaving with beneficiaries etc.
Shri Imran Hussain also informed that for effective management at Fair Price shops, Delhi Government has deployed civil defense volunteers to ensure social distancing norms and orderly distribution of free ration to the beneficiaries. He directed the Food & Civil Supplies department to ensure that the Civil Defence Volunteers deputed at FPSs should monitor all the beneficiaries visiting FPS shops for getting ration, are wearing masks and are following social distancing norms. The Minister also directed the officers to ensure that FPS dealers adopt Covid appropriate behaviour at all times during Ration distribution.
During the visit, various queries and grievances of residents related to smooth ration distribution were also addressed. Few residents also met with the Minister during the inspection. On the issue of pendency of applications for issuance of new Ration Cards and addition of beneficiaries in existing Ration Cards in Delhi, the Minister desired to convene a review meeting of the Food and Supplies Department to settle the grievances.
Addressing the residents, F&S Minister informed that the Kejriwal Government has given a huge relief to the people of Delhi amidst the Covid Pandemic. The Kejriwal Government has extended the period for free ration supply to the beneficiaries for another six months i.e upto May 2022 to mitigate the economic hardship caused by the Pandemic Covid-19. The underprivileged of Delhi have been receiving free ration ever since the pandemic struck in March-April 2020 and needy people are getting free ration through their ration cards and also those without having ration cards.
