NEW DELHI:

Marking the martyrdom day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, the Kejriwal Government has announced the development of a special school for armed forces training. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal stated, “This is a way for the people of Delhi to pay tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his day of martyrdom. Specialised school to prepare students for armed forces to be built in Delhi. It will be named after Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh – ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School’. The school will have a capacity of a total of 200 seats with 100 seats for 9th and 11th class each. High quality training will be given to students by expert faculty and veteran officers from the armed forces will be employed as trainers. Students will be prepared to join the NDA, Naval Forces, and other armed services in future. A 14-acre land in Jharoda Kalan has been allotted for development of this special school. Admissions are open to all students in Delhi, and 18,000 applications have already been received. Phase 1 of admissions is an aptitude test, which will take place on 27th March for 9th class, and on 28th March for 11th class. Phase 2 will include interviews, after which the final 200 students will be enrolled.”

CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “It is the 23rd of March tomorrow, the day of martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. It was on this day in the year 1931 that our great freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were hanged to death by the British. All three of them sacrificed their lives for the country, to fight for the freedom of our people. On this occasion, the Delhi Government is making a crucial announcement – As all of you are well aware that on 20th December 2021, the Cabinet had taken a decision and declared that we will build a new and different type of school in Delhi, one where students will be trained in their early years to enlist in the armed forces. Training will be provided to these students so that they can go on to enrol in the NDA, the Navy, the Air Force. All students will be prepared to become defence officers in future in this specialised school.”

He continued, “This school will be named after Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. The name that has been decided for the school is Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School. The admission in this school and its facilities will be completely free for whoever wishes to join. It will be a residential campus, with separate hostels for boys and girls. A 14-acre stretch of land in Jharoda Kalan has been allotted for the development of this campus, where this new and improved school will be built. State of the art facilities will be available to all students. The way ideal training for officer-like qualities is provided in the armed forces to young men and women, similar qualities will be imbibed in these students; and hence they will be prepared for NDA, Naval Academy, and other armed services in future. Expert faculty will be employed for optimum training of these students, which will include retired veterans from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.”

Shri Arvind Kejriwal further said, “This school is open for admission to any child living in Delhi. Students will be eligible to enrol in the 9th class and 11th class, with an availability of 100 seats in each. The admissions have begun, and classes will commence this year for which we have already received 18,000 applications for just 200 seats. The entrance exam for admission in the 9th class will be held on 27th March, and that for 11th class will be held on 28th March. This aptitude test will be a screening for the applicants as phase one of the admission process. Post clearing this round, selected students will be interviewed after which the final 200 students will be enrolled.”

The CM concluded, “I hence congratulate all the people of Delhi on this unique way for them to pay tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on his day of martyrdom.”
