Kejriwal Government to fund the development of 5,000 parks in Delhi

The Kejriwal Government has taken a resolve to transform Delhi into a city of world-class parks. About 3,000 acres of area will be developed as state of the art facilities across 17 City Forests of Delhi. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal reviewed the status of parks of Delhi today and directed officials to submit a detailed project report within 15 days. Currently, 1,500 parks are being redeveloped in collaboration with 450 RWAs under the Mukhyamantri Park Saundaryakaran Yojna. The Kejriwal Government will also fund the development of 5,000 parks in Delhi. Along with Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia, Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai, DDC Vice Chairperson Shri Jasmine Shah and other high-ranking officials were present in the meeting.
A high-level review meeting on the parks and gardens of Delhi was held today at the Delhi Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal. In this meeting, discussions were held regarding development of parks of international standards in Delhi. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal has directed officers to transform 17 city forests to world class levels in the first phase. These world class city forests will be developed in an area of about 3000 acres across 17 locations of Delhi. A detailed plan will be chalked out and submitted to the Chief Minister in 15 days.
As part of the Mukhyamantri Park Saundaryakaran Yojna, 1,500 parks are being transformed in collaboration with 450 RWAs under a unique community parks initiative. Sudh parks, spread over an area of 500 acres, are being developed by the Delhi Parks and Gardens Society in collaboration with local RWAs, NGOs and MLAs. The Kejriwal Government will fund the development of 5 thousand parks in Delhi and transform them in a manner that residents get state of the art facilities within their locality.
Under the scheme, 16,828 parks will be surveyed in Delhi. So far 6,396 parks have been surveyed. Of these, 3,565 parks have been identified as those not being maintained upto standards. After surveying all the locations, appropriate steps will be taken with the help of RWAs/NGOs to transform them into world-class parks.
Under its vision for Delhi@2047 to make Delhi a modern, equitable and sustainable city, the Kejriwal Government has launched the Community Parks Initiative to transform the neighbourhood parks of Delhi into modern, world class parks. The initiative will be a collaboration between DDC and Delhi Parks and Gardens Society (DPGS), RWAs and CSR/philanthropic organisations. The community parks project would focus on making parks an inclusive space for everyone by consulting with different groups of citizens and involving them in the process. Currently, there is minimal involvement of local communities in management of parks but active participation will be ensured in designing and maintenance of the green spaces. These parks would not only improve the ecology but also the overall quality of life for the residents of Delhi.
The parks will have these facilities:
• Public conveniences including adequate lighting, CCTVs, toilets, etc.
• Dedicated play area for toddlers, children and adolescents with child-friendly play equipment, open air gyms, gazebos and covered seating area
• Walking, jogging and cycling tracks, open air gyms, water bodies
• Composting, rainwater harvesting, irrigation supply, power backup
• Native trees, flowers and shrubs
