NEW DELHI:
Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Shri Manish Sisodia distributed scholarships to 15,791 children of construction workers on Wednesday at the Thyagraj Stadium. Financial assistance worth Rs 12.35 crores was distributed to children studying in various government schools of Delhi, who are in need of support to secure their future. This step by the Delhi Government and the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (DBOCWWB) will strengthen the financial support for the future of these children. Motivating the students to use the given amount wisely, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said that the Delhi Government wants all its children to be skilled and to explore all new avenues of jobs and academics, and that finance should not be a hindrance in their path to success. This amount will give flight to the dreams of children of construction workers. Every child whose parents are working at construction sites or are involved in any small scale construction jobs are eligible for this scholarship
Shri Manish Sisodia said, “Each child who registers for this scholarship at their respective school gets the amount of Rs 6,000 per year from Class 1 to 8, Rs 8,400 per year from Class 9 to 10, and Rs 12,000 per year from Class 11 to 12. The Delhi Government has distributed the scholarship worth Rs 12.35 crores to children who registered themselves in their school for scholarship for the sessions 2018-19 and 2019-20. Out of this, Rs 4.8 crores have been given as scholarships to 8,062 students of Class 1-8, Rs 4.1 crores to 4,888 students from Class 9-10, and Rs 3.4 crores to 2,841 students from Class 11-12.”
He further said, “Going beyond the scholarship at the school level, the Delhi Government also has the provision of providing financial assistance to children of construction workers, for higher education. Under this, students are provided with the financial assistance Rs 36,000 per year at the graduation level, Rs 48,000 per year for ITI courses and LLB 5 year course, Rs 36,000 per year for LLB (3 years course), Rs 60,000 per year for polytechnic diploma, and Rs 1.2 lakh per year for technical courses like Engineering, Medical, and MBA.”
The Deputy Chief Minister urged students to register for the next session scholarship in time and asked them to motivate other children in the community to register for this as soon as the applications are open. Applications for the sessions 2021-22 and 2022-23 will be opened in the next 15 days.
How students plan to spend their scholarship amount
