AAP’s Haryana bid has gotten significantly strengthened as ex-Haryana Congress Chief & MP Dr Ashok Tanwar took membership of the party in the presence of AAP National Convenor and Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal. On this occasion Shri Kejriwal expressed his delight to see Ashok Tanwar join AAP. He asserted that Dr Tanwar will drive Haryana towards change with his vision. The Delhi CM further said that Dr Ashok Tanwar’s political experience from student politics to Parliament will certainly prove to be of great help to the party organization in Haryana and across the country. Upon joining the AAP, Dr Tanwar said that he joined AAP to work for welfare of residents of Haryana and to provide them an option for corruption free, unbiased government in future. AAP Senior Leader and Delhi Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia along with Rajya Sabha MP and Haryana in-charge Shri Sushil Gupta welcomed Shri Tanwar in the party.
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Ashok Tanwar Ji is joining the AAP today. I wholeheartedly welcome him to our family. I welcome the sea of supporters that have accompanied Ashok ji to AAP as well. My roots go back to Haryana so I am delighted to see our Haryana unit get strengthened like this. I hope that in the coming days AAP will form the government in the state too. AAP isn’t a political party, it is a symbol of change and revolution. I would always remark that if politicians work efficiently then we’d not be here but we had to enter the fray to transform the country. We’ve formed our government in both Delhi and Haryana. We’re performing tremendously in both the states. I am certain with the vision of Ashok ji we will drive change in Haryana too. He hasn’t only worked at the state level but at the national level too, I firmly believe his experience will aid us not only in Haryana but throughout the country now.”

While introducing Shri Tanwar as the newest AAP family member, senior party leader and Delhi Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia said, “In Delhi and states across India, people are constantly joining AAP after being impressed by the historical works being done by the Kejriwal government in public interest, which includes development of schools, hospitals, electricity, water, roads, transport etc. In the same sequence, former Haryana Congress Chief and MP Ashok Tanwar joined the AAP today. Along with him, journalists Shiv Prakash Shukla, Sandeep Bhardwaj and councilor Vikas Bhardwaj also joined the party.”
He added, “After the success of the Kejriwal governance model and the phenomenal victory of AAP in Punjab, now the people across the nation want to join this development movement being led by Shri Arvind Kejriwal in India. A new wave has been set across India. People are tired of traditional parties now and want to change the landscape of politics in the country now. That’s why today people from all over the country want to join the Aam Aadmi Party and become a part of this revolution of change. The joining of Ashok Tanwar will strengthen the party roots in Haryana and will establish the Kejriwal model of governance in Punjab’s neighboring state too.”

A youth leader and patriot, Dr Ashok Tanwar has spent over 25 years in active public service. An alumnus of prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Dr Ashok Tanwar did his MA in History, MPhil and PhD. He holds his doctorate in Medieval Indian History. He carved a niche for himself and starting with his role in National Students Union of India (NSUI), went on to become President of Indian Youth Congress and then Member of Parliament. He also held the position of President of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee. He quit the Congress before Haryana Assembly elections and has been extensively traveling across the country to gauge the pulse of people and raising peoples issues.
He was instrumental in establishing NSUI as a force to reckon with in the JNU. Dr Tanwar was Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) chief from February 14, 2014 to September 4, 2019. He was the president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) from January 2005 to February 2010. Dr Tanwar was the youngest leader to lead the IYC and was appointed the President of National Students Union of India (NSUI) in 2003. He won the 15th Lok Sabha elections from Sirsa in Haryana.
On September 23, 2009, he was appointed a Member of the Library Committee. Dr Tanwar was also a member of Consultative Committee, Ministry of Environment and Forest; Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Office of Profit; Convener, Parliamentary Forum on Youth; Member, Public Accounts Committee; Member, PAC Sub-Committee-II (Railways). He was a member of the Student Committee on HRD & railways and also served as Vice Chairman of Indo-Pak Parliamentary Forum for 5 years. 2010 onwards he also served AICC as its national security and was made in charge of several crucial states including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, J&K, Karnataka and Kerala.
