NEW DELHI:
In another significant overhaul of the health infrastructure in Delhi government-run hospitals, the Kejriwal Government has decided to provide CT scan facilities at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Hospital situated in Dwarka Sector 9. More than 22 lakh people living in and around South-West Delhi are expected to benefit from the installation of this machine, Emergency services will be made available to the people as well, and people will be attended to immediately. All of these healthcare services will be provided under one roof. The machinery is expected to be made available for public use around August after all the necessary tests are carried out.
Various healthcare services, including gynaecology, OPD, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, surgery, and physiotherapy, are operational at the Indira Gandhi Hospital, set up by the Delhi Government. Elaborating on the developments, Delhi Health Minister Shri Satyendar Jain said, “Modern machines will further strengthen the health system of Delhi government hospitals. Earlier, the Kejriwal Government had provided modern machines for the treatment of diseases and emphasised their use in other hospitals, including Deen Dyal and Lok Nayak Hospitals. After the installation of these machines, people will be able to get tests done that are worth thousands of rupees, for free. People will also be able to avail various types of health facilities like doctor consultation, check-up, and treatment, all in one day, under one roof. It is a part of our continuous effort that if anyone wishes to get their treatment done in Delhi government hospitals, they should be provided with the best health facilities. We will provide special VIP quality treatment to every common person in Delhi.”
22 lakh people will benefit from the service
Dr. BL Choudhary, MD, Indira Gandhi Hospital, said, “By the month of August, the CT scan facility will be made available for public use. The process for this has started. A CT scan machine will be installed soon. Then, after it has been properly tested, the machine will be dedicated to the service of the people.”
Various healthcare services, including gynaecology, OPD, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, surgery and physiotherapy are currently operational at the Indira Gandhi Hospital which is set up by Delhi Government. Staff recruitment is also in the process at many levels in the hospital. The registration time in OPD is from 8 am to 11:30 am. It is important to note that during the latest wave of Coronavirus, the Delhi Government started the services for COVID patients as well. Since then, these patients are being treated at the hospital. At the same time, the Kejriwal Government has provided vaccination facilities at the hospital site.
At present, due to lack of CT scan facility in the hospital, the cases pertaining to serious diseases and minor accidents like head injuries or other such cases are referred for examination to other hospitals or private labs. These tests are done under the Delhi Arogya Kosh, meaning that the patient does not have to pay any money for this, the Delhi government pays all the cost of the test. However, in this situation, it takes a lot of time to get the test done somewhere else. There are many such cases when there is not enough time to get the investigation done. In this case the patient is referred to the nearby hospital. For such cases, the facility being augmented at Indira Gandhi Hospital will prove to be very effective. The population of about 22 lakh people living here will get the benefit of a CT scan machine. Along with Dwarka, residents of Palam, Najafgarh, Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri will also be able to take advantage of this.
What is a CT scan machine?
A CT scan or Computerised Tomography, is a form of X-ray, also known as computerised axial tomography. It shows images of various organs and systems in the body. Most CT scan machines are used to detect the symptoms of diseases related to different parts of the body. With its help, soft tissue, blood vessels and bones of different parts of the body can be examined. Crucial information related to many internal parts of the body, such as head, shoulders, spinal bones, heart, stomach, knees, chest and other internal parts can be derived using a CT Scan machine, which helps the doctor to understand and treat the patient’s disease and provide better treatment.
Staff recruitment continues with an increase in treatment facilities
In the year 1997, the DDA had allotted 15 acres of land to the Health Department for the construction of the hospital. In 2008, former Chief Minister, the late Sheila Dikshit also laid the foundation stone. After a long wait of 24 years, when the Aam Aadmi Party government came into power under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the work of building this hospital escalated rapidly. Finally, last year, the hospital was opened and dedicated to the service of the public. The Delhi Government has provided better infrastructure and health facilities in this hospital than most private hospitals. As far as staff is concerned, nursing staff, including medical officers, specialist doctors, and junior resident doctors, have been appointed to the hospital. Apart from this, many senior resident doctors have also been appointed. As the treatment facilities are being increased, the rest of the staff is also in the process of being appointed.
Aim of Kejriwal Government is to provide the best health facilities to the people
Health Minister Shri Satyendar Jain said, “The aim of the Kejriwal government is not only to make every government hospital in Delhi better than private hospitals but also to make Delhi government hospitals one of the best hospitals in the country. The citizens of Delhi deserve world-class facilities and we are making sure this becomes the ground reality in the state.”
Following the instructions of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, all the new hospitals in Delhi are being made fully air-conditioned. Apart from this, by making changes to the existing hospitals, the Kejriwal Government is working on the principle of providing the best and equal health facilities to all the citizens of Delhi.
