Three main roads of Central and New Delhi to be redeveloped, Dy CM Manish Sisodia approves project works worth Rs 23.96 crores

BJ Road-Inner Road underpass to be opened to the public from next month; Dy CM directs official to expedite the construction work

Considering the convenience of pedestrians, Deputy Chief Minister approves the installation of lifts and escalators worth 2.54 crores at skywalks on BJ Road underpass

Continuing the series of inspections to expedite the projects under the Public Works Department (PWD), Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Shri Manish Sisodia reviewed the construction work of the underpass at Benito Juarez Marg (B.J. Marg) along with works related to the development of roads of Central Delhi and New Delhi. For works related to the development of roads, the Deputy Chief Minister approved projects worth Rs 23.96 crore and for the convenience of the users of the footover bridge and skywalk being built along with the underpass at BJ Marg, he approved a project of Rs 2.54 crore to install lifts and escalators.

The Deputy Chief Minister said, “The Kejriwal Government is committed to provide safe, smooth and beautiful roads to the people of Delhi. Our focus is to decongest Delhi roads, strengthen them and give people a better commuting experience.”

Shri Manish Sisodia directed the officials of PWD that this project should be completed in time so that people do not face any problem in movement and they get relief from incessant traffic.

Notably, the underpass at BJ Marg is part of Corridor Improvement Project of PWD, Delhi, which was taken up to improve the Outer Ring Road from IIT to NH-8 and its impact areas. A major part of which has already been completed. The construction work of the underpass at the junction of BJ Marg and Inner Road has been completed and it will be opened for the use of the general public from next month.

Apart from this the work of RTR flyover was completed in July 2019 itself, which has already been opened for the public. In this project construction of a flyover to connect Munirka flyover, construction of underpass at the junction of BJ Marg and inner road and construction of elevated road, ramp, skywalk, RCC drain, footpath, cycle track, road widening/strengthening, rain water harvesting etc is included. For the convenience of the users of the foot over bridge and skywalk being built along with this underpass, the Deputy Chief Minister has also approved the installation of 4 lifts with a total capacity of 24 people and 2 escalators under this project.

Along with this project, the Deputy Chief Minister also reviewed the works related to the strengthening and development of roads of Central Delhi and New Delhi and directed the PWD officers to improve the condition of the roads. For this, the Deputy Chief Minister approved the project works worth Rs 24 crore. He also approved the project work of 1,26,36,350/- for updating the sub-station of Shakti Nagar Pump. These roads include-

-> From Rajpura Road to Tis Hazari Red Light to Civil Line Police Station at the cost of Rs.4,44,02,000/-

-> Outer Ring Road from Wazirabad Ring Road to Gandhi Vihar Subway at the cost of Rs 9,75,22,200/-

-> Outer Ring Road from Gandhi Vihar to Burari Flyover at the cost of 9,77,59,900/-
