NEW DELHI
Senior Aam Aadmi Party Leader and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia on Monday attacked the BJP after its latest scam in the name of NGOs was exposed by the party. He stated, “*BJP has put government officials to the task of collecting funds for an NGO run by Adesh Gupta’s associates. NGO ‘Drop in Ocean’ was created by BJP leaders to pocket crores of rupees in the name of digital classrooms; BJP is cheating people of Delhi. BJP’s model of development consists of signing MoUs with non-existent NGOs, asking MCD officers to extort money from businesses. BJP signed an MoU with an NGO run by its own people to rob MCD and people of Delhi in its last days in the corporation. People are tired of BJP’s 17-year misrule, corruption-ridden governance of MCD; BJP has made Delhi a hotspot of corruption. Challenge BJP to announce MCD elections, people ready to throw them out.”
“The BJP has begun to develop innovative ways of committing corruption in Delhi’s MCD in the penultimate month of its 17-year misrule. The latest in a long line of schemes to defraud MCD and, by extension, the people of Delhi, is the BJP’s deception in the name of creating digital classrooms,” said Shri Manish Sisodia.
The Deputy Chief Minister added, “First, the BJP enlists the help of those close to its top leaders in Delhi to launch the ‘Drop in Ocean’ NGO. Following that, it develops a programme to digitise classrooms in MCD-run schools. Following that, the BJP had MCD sign an MoU with an NGO to digitise classrooms. The MOU stated expressly that the NGO will raise funds for digitalization of classrooms through corporate social responsibility (CSR). Instead of adhering to the MoU, the BJP has directed high-ranking officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to seek funding for the NGO from businessmen.”
While receiving CSR money for school improvement is not new, Shri Sisodia argued that getting corporate officers to arrange CSR money for an NGO is the first of its kind in the country. “The Corporation has formed a committee of its top executives, including the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Director of Education, and has asked them to raise CSR funds for this NGO from firms.” The BJP has mastered the art of inventing new methods to defraud the people of Delhi. All eight members of the NGO are from the core team of BJP Delhi state president Adesh Gupta, according to information available with the Office of Registrar,” he added.
“We obtained information on the NGO from the Registrar’s Office. There is no information about the NGO or its previous activity accessible. Even the MoU signed with the company contains no information regarding this NGO’s previous work, such as whether it has any expertise in digitising classrooms or any other activity,” Shri Sisodia explained.
Shri Sisodia further alleged that, as a result of the directive, MCD officials are now threatening Delhi’s businesspeople and industrialists to send their CSR funds to the BJP’s NGO. “The authorities are now threatening businessmen with jail time if they don’t provide money to this NGO. The officers of the Municipal Corporation are extorting money for BJP politicians,” he said.
He concluded, “People of Delhi are ready to kick BJP out because they’ve turned Delhi into a trash heap of corruption. They’re tired of the BJP’s techniques of filling their coffers at the expense of children’s education. Once they declare the elections, the people of Delhi are ready and waiting to kick them out.”
