Aam Aadmi Party demands that the BJP’s Central Government clear its dues and fix the garbage collection system at the earliest: Durgesh Pathak

NEW DELHI:

The BJP-led Central Government’s blatant neglect and misgovernance is pushing Delhi towards an epidemic, as one by one all waste collection agencies are withdrawing their services due to failure of payment by the BJP. Speaking out against the BJP’s mismanagement, AAP Senior Leader and MCD In-Charge Shri Durgesh Pathak stated – Following Metro Waste Pvt Ltd halting its services, an agency called AG Enviro has now written a letter to the MCD warning them to stop garbage collection unless the company is paid its dues. The BJP-ruled Centre had said that post unification, it would take charge of all of MCD related responsibilities and end the troubles faced by Delhi residents. However, the ground reality stands in sharp contrast to these false claims made by the Centre. The BJP-ruled MCD and Centre’s disastrous failure has made it difficult for people to step out or even breathe given the stench of garbage piled up along the streets. The Aam Aadmi Party therefore demands that the BJP’s central government pay the designated agencies and repair the garbage collection system at the earliest.

Attacking the BJP for its reckless mismanagement of the situation of waste collection and disposal in Delhi, AAP Senior Leader and MCD In-Charge Shri Durgesh Pathak said, “The state of waste management in the National Capital is consistently deteriorating. No garbage collection has taken place in seven wards in the Karol Bagh area over the past ten days as Metro Waste Pvt Ltd, the private company assigned to pick up and dispose of trash, has not been paid its dues by the BJP-ruled MCD. Today, yet another private company which goes by AG Enviro has also laid down arms. It has issued a warning to the MCD through a letter, in which the company strictly states that if the BJP-led MCD does not complete their payment, they will be compelled to halt their waste collection and disposal services. We are hence witnessing that all private players responsible for waste management in the NCT of Delhi as allotted by the BJP are gradually surrendering their duties in the event of not being paid by the MCD. This has to be the first time in Delhi’s history that one by one all waste collection agencies are feeling compelled to withdraw or halt their services as they are not receiving their payments, which is needed for them to proceed with their assigned tasks.”

He continued, “When the plan for the unification of the three MCDs was being proposed by the BJP, they repeatedly claimed that this change will rid Delhi of all its civic and other municipality related problems. They time and again ensured that there would be no trouble when it comes to funds and their allocation, and that all agencies involved would receive their dues well on time now that the Centre has taken charge of the MCD. However, the reality is far removed from these promises made by the BJP. The situation is, in fact, even worse than it was under the three BJP-led MCDs, which would somehow scrap for loans and pay these agencies. Now these payments have completely stopped, and if such a situation persists, it is very likely that in the upcoming month or two, all private agencies responsible for waste collection in Delhi will permanently withdraw their services or abandon the state of Delhi altogether. If such a dire situation arises, it will become difficult for people to step out of their homes throughout Delhi.”

He concluded, “One can see an example of what awaits the entire Delhi by going to any of the seven neglected wards in Karol Bagh, where it is nearly impossible to walk around the area on foot. It is a task for people to even breathe in the area given the days-old stench of all kinds of garbage piled up along the streets. The entire state of Delhi is being pushed into yet another epidemic by the BJP’s constant neglect and misgovernance. The BJP leaders and councillors are collectively conspiring to ruin the lives of Delhi residents and make as much money as they can while they ransack the entire National Capital. The Aam Aadmi Party demands the Centre and the BJP to at least go back to the system they were practising until the unification of the MCDs, where they were paying these agencies on time even if they were not fulfilling their other duties. We demand them to focus on their single most important responsibility of keeping Delhi clean – of ensuring timely waste collection from all corners of the state, because the current situation of trash being slewed out on the streets is posing major obstacles in the lives of Delhi residents and causing them a great deal of inconvenience.”
