Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal made a big announcement today to give a boost to employment, business and economy in Delhi, saying that the country’s biggest shopping festival will be organized in Delhi. He said, “Delhi will host the world-class “Delhi Shopping Festival” from 28 January to 26 February 2023. The marquee event will have world-class arrangements and people across the country and the world will be invited to the festival. Their shopping experience will encapsulate culture and tradition of Delhi, warmth and hospitality of Delhites. The festival will mark Delhi’s standing at the international level. The Delhi Government will make it the biggest shopping festival in the world in the coming few years. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal today launched & announced the dates for the “Delhi Shopping Festival”. He said, “I have good news to share and an important announcement to make to the people of Delhi and the people living out of Delhi. They should gear up for the Delhi Shopping Festival, which will be celebrated from January 28th, 2023 to February 26th, 2023. People living outside Delhi should book their tickets and make travel arrangements, while the people of Delhi should prepare to welcome them. This is going to be India’s largest Shopping Festival. I am quite optimistic that we will make it the World’s largest Shopping Festival in the near future.”
The CM informed that the festival will be a unique blend of Delhi’s cultural diversity and trading skills. He added, “The festival will be a month long, and we have been planning for this grand celebration for some time. Planning has been completed and now is the time to implement the same. Countdown has begun and we will invite people from the entire country and the world. This festival will be a unique opportunity to buy quality products, reflecting the spirit of Delhi. Not just that, they will experience the culture and tradition of Delhi and have time to experience the warmth and hospitality of the people living here. The festival will be youth-oriented but there will be a lot for families, children and elderly as well. The rich and poor will benefit out of this festival.”
CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal gave proof of detailed and meticulous planning to cater to the needs and interest of every individual. He continued, “Visitors will have unparalleled shopping experience. They will get heavy discounts on all the products. Entire Delhi will be decorated like a bride by embellishing all the markets, shops and malls. There will be various exhibitions on spirituality, gaming, technology, health and wellness. There will be unlimited entertainment because we have planned to organise various entertainment programmes keeping the youth and families in mind. Topmost artists from the world will be invited and over 200 concerts will take place. There will be a dedicated opening and closing ceremony which will be attended by thousands of people.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal emphasised the importance of such events in the growth of trade and the welfare of businessmen in the state. He said, “Delhi is famous for its food. People here get the best cuisines from all parts of the country, be it South Indian food, North Indian food, Marathi, Gujarati and Bengali food. There will be special food walks during this festival. Reputed hotels, restaurants and the hospitality industry will take part in the festival. We are coordinating with the hotels, railways and airlines to make the stay and travel of visitors comfortable. They will offer special packages so that as many people can visit Delhi during the festival. This festival is first-of-its-kind in the country, and this will give a massive boost to the economy of Delhi. This will be a huge opportunity for the businessmen to expand their business by increasing their revenue. This is a great chance to present Delhi at an international level.”
The CM reiterated the commitment of his government to provide jobs to people of Delhi. He concluded, “Most importantly, the festival will create thousands of jobs. We have made employment generation our priority, which is reflected in Delhi’s budget and every speech, interview of mine. Not just Delhi, but it is the most pressing issue for the Indian economy as well that our youth is employed. This festival will bring together the people, corporations, business and Delhi Government to work as partners. I am hopeful that people of Delhi will start preparing to host this festival and people outside Delhi will start making travel arrangements to avoid last-minute rush as we’re expecting a huge footfall for the festival.”
The vision behind Delhi Shopping Festival
The Kejriwal Government has decided to host India’s first ever citywide mega shopping festival in the national capital in the form of Delhi Shopping Festival. The festival will offer 30 days of Unparalleled Shopping, Discounts & Prizes, Unlimited Family Fun & Entertainment, Unmissable Culinary Experiences, and Unforgettable Art & Culture.
Delhi to be divided into five zones for the festival
Delhi will be divided into North, South, East, West and Central Zone to host different components of the shopping festival. On the basis of the USP, Brand Awareness, Genres of Shopping, No of Shops, GST Collection, Space, Footfall, Connectivity and Cleanliness, the government will further narrow down upon 15 iconic markets and 10 malls across all zones to take this festival to the ground. The Kejriwal Government further plans to expand this shopping festival to neighbourhood markets from the second year.
Daily engagement to be ensured at all markets and malls
As part of the festival, the government plans to conduct various events and programs to ensure daily engagement in each market. These would include, Family Engagement with game stalls, prizes as give-aways & movies, Kids Activities like face painting, magic shows, art competition, Permanent and Semi Permanent Decoration, Indian College bands, International Cultural Troops, Celebrity Talks, Light and Sound Shows, Talent Show, Street Theatre, Fashion Shows, Special focus on facilities/ engagement for women, elders, & kids, Food Walks & Curation besides Shopping & Strategic Discounts on Products and Categories.
Focus areas of the festival
The Delhi Government has further identified a series of focus areas for different sections of the society in order to give a unique experience to everyone. For Homemakers and Shopping Enthusiasts: there will be, Dedicated hours and days for shopping, talent hunt, Porter service, Mehendi & bangle booths, Free transport, Golf-carts for movement, and special trainings; For children and young adults: there will be rides, games and competitions, Magic and puppet shows, participative performances, dance floors, Special booths for candies, ice-cream and fast-food; For the elderly: there will be dedicated lanes for movement, dedicated hours and days for shopping, friendly infra & amenities, special discounts and reserved seating. Besides these, the festival will also see special parades and performances for everyone’s delight.
World-class opening and closing ceremonies on the cards
The festival is set to see a world-class extravaganza hosting 20,000 people on ground and millions online. A special section of the tickets to the Opening Ceremony will be given away as Prizes as a part of a Contest on Delhi. The event will host Stellar Performances with big crowd pulling performances by Musicians, Film Personalities, Comedians, Dance Groups, etc. The closing ceremony will see a Colourful & Tasteful display of Delhi’s Culture. It will bring out the vibrant culture of Delhi & its Sufi routes. A special ceremony will also be conducted to award Delhi’s Heros and the markets and present Mega Raffle giveaways.
Large-scale city beautification to take place before the festival
To offer a pleasant experience to all those coming to Delhi to attend the festival, as well as the locals, the government will take up a massive beautification drive. Delhi will come alive for the festival, with Street Art using the styles of languishing arts, showcasing Delhi’s culture; Environmental friendly Installations; and Lighting of Select Parks, Monuments, flyovers, buildings, Metro and Railway station, airport, ISBT, schools, colleges.
5 curated expos to be organised across the 5 zones
5-month long expos, hosting 5 themes in 5 zones will be organised in Delhi under the Shopping Festival. These will include expos on Spirituality and Wellness; Art & Literature with focus on languishing art; Gaming & Tech; Kids Special; and Environment & Sustainability.
20 weekend blockbusters to be organised during the festival
4 Blockbuster Performances will be organised in each zone over the weekends during the festival. The Weekend Blockbusters will host between 6,000-8,000 people. Concerts, performing arts, comedy shows, celebrity gigs will be a part of the event.
Special Raffle contests to be an attraction for shoppers
Each week will see the announcement of multiple prizes given out to the shoppers. Hundreds of winners will be awarded every week while mega winners will be announced at the Closing Ceremony.
Delhi Government to collaborate with Food & Hospitality industry to increase the reach of the festival
Partnerships will be initiated with Restaurants, Bars, Food discovery program organisers, Hotels, Travel Agents, Online Travel Portals, Airlines etc for them to offer special discounts and build packages for the Delhi Shopping Festival, to help increase the reach of the festival, and truly establish Delhi as a paradise for shopping and culture.
