IND vs SA Test Series: With the announcement of Team India before the South Africa tour, there was a lot of controversy over the change of captaincy of the ODI team. In Indian cricket, the new captain Rohit Sharma was replaced by Virat in ODIs. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly clarified that the board had not requested Kohli to step down as T20I captain in October and once he did, the selectors were not inclined. Two different captains can also be kept in the white ball format.

A week after the captain’s removal, Kohli held a press conference and dismissed all of Ganguly’s arguments. Kohli said that no one told him about not giving up the captaincy of T20. Speculation has been rife since Kohli’s comments and Ganguly has kept quiet since then. It has been said that the entire situation will be handled by the BCCI itself.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, when asked on the Virat matter, insisted that there should be transparency in the communication between the players and the board. “It could have been handled in a better way. I have always believed that the role of the cricket board is very important. The selection committee should communicate their plans for a particular player efficiently – ‘this is our plan’ We believe it is better for us. What do you think?’ – Something along these lines,” Afridi said on Sama TV.

Afridi further said that there is a dire need for “face-to-face” communication instead of communication through media. “If you live these things through the media, problems are bound to arise. Talking face-to-face can lead to solutions. If you keep dragging it on, it won’t be the solution.
