NEW DELHI/PUNJAB:
AAP National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal formally declared that Aam Aadmi Party’s trusted soldier and veteran leader Sardar Bhagwant Mann will be the party’s CM face in Punjab. Shri Kejriwal stated — I wholeheartedly congratulate Sardar Bhagwant Mann on being declared AAP’s CM candidate for Punjab. AAP has emerged as a huge hope among the people of Punjab; this is a massive responsibility and I am certain Bhagwant Mann will live up to it and bring back Punjab’s lost glory. The atmosphere in Punjab and even all the surveys show AAP to be winning the elections and project AAP’s CM candidate to be the next CM of the state too. Had I declared Bhagwant Mann as AAP’s CM candidate on my own discretion then it would not have been anything less than the nepotism of the older parties. Dhols and tears take over Mohali as Sardar Bhagwant Mann gets declared as AAP’s CM candidate
AAP National Convenor and Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Mohali today to unveil the party’s CM face for the forthcoming elections. It is noteworthy that Shri Kejriwal had last week announced a campaign wherein people could vote for their pick of AAP’s CM face. From then, till the voting stopped a total of twenty one lacs, fifty nine thousands and four hundred thirty seven votes were cast via messages and calls. Over 93% of these votes were cast in the favour of AAP MP & Punjab Convenor Shri Bhagwant Mann. Post the results, Shri Bhagwant Mann was formally declared the party’s CM candidate for the Punjab Polls. With the announcement, dhols and tears took over the venue in a rather emotional moment for the whole Punjab unit and especially the Sangrur MP’s supporters. The event also marked the presence of Shri Bhagwant Mann’s mother and younger sister. While his mother took to an emotional prayer for the wellbeing of the society, his sister was reminiscent of the struggle he had faced to rise to this stature today.
Wherever I went people asked me who’s the Dulha, here he is, it is Bhagwant Mann: Arvind Kejriwal
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Today is a historic day for Punjab in a lot of aspects. Every single person in Punjab is eagerly waiting to know the name of the CM candidate from the Aam Aadmi Party. Over the past few months, wherever I would visit people always asked me, “Who’s the Dulha? Who is AAP’s CM candidate?” I’d tell everyone to be patient, that patience is rewarding. That the Aam Aadmi Party will give you a CM candidate whom all of Punjab will be proud of. So today, the time has come to announce this long awaited name. In order to settle on our CM candidate, we tried a new and different approach. In Punjab, we witnessed that other political parties often put forward their sons, daughters in law, or whoever as chief ministerial candidates.”
Did not want to engage in nepotistic antics by naming Bhagwant Mann as per my own will: Arvind Kejriwal
He continued, “Bhagwant Mann Ji is my younger brother. Had I simply announced his name on my own, then people would point fingers and say that ‘Kejriwal nominated his brother. He has practised nepotism like all other parties.’ So we decided that we would not take this approach. We would instead ask the 3 crore people of Punjab whom they want to see as their next Chief Minister. So, last week we issued a phone number for people to share their choice with us – by calling or through WhatsApp or SMS. We received 21,59,437 responses for this. Now, all surveys are reporting, and the environment is also mirroring the fact that the Aam Aadmi Party is going to form the government in Punjab. So, the CM candidate that is announced now is going to be Punjab’s next Chief Minister. Through these 21 lac responses, many people sent my name, while I had declared earlier that I am not a part of this race. So, keeping those messages aside, 93.3% of the remaining messages had Sardar Bhagwant Mann’s name. In the second position we had Navjot Singh Sidhu with 3.6% of the messages in his favour. Hence, I now officially declare Sardar Bhagwant Mann as the Aam Aadmi Party’s Chief Ministerial candidate for Punjab.”
At the same time, the Delhi CM took to Twitter to share the news and said, “I congratulate Sardar Bhagwant Mann on being declared CM face of AAP in Punjab. Whole Punjab is looking upto AAP as a hope. It’s a huge responsibility and I am sure Bhagwant will bring back the smile on the face of every Punjabi.”
This same Punjabi soil we regain its lost glory, you will see people break into bhangras and giddhas: Bhagwant Mann
AAP’s Punjab CM Candidate Shri Bhagwant Mann said, “I am grateful to the Aam Aadmi Party, Shri Arvind Kejriwal and the people of Punjab for entrusting me with this responsibility. I will do everything in my power to develop a ‘Sunehra te Rangla Punjab’ — an everflourishing and prosperous state. I have always been saying that whether I am given the duty of putting posters on the walls or cleaning the chowks of a town, I’ll do it diligently as long as we all work to bring back the lost glory of Punjab. Today, the party has given me a very significant responsibility, and people have placed their trust in me, so it is a double responsibility for me, and I will work with double the zeal to live up to everyone’s expectations. Today, lakhs of Punjabis have placed their trust in me. If the ‘Green Pen,’ which changes the fate of the politicians, falls into our hands, I am confident that the same ‘Green Pen’ will benefit the poor. In Punjab, where people are staging dharnas and jumping into canals because they are fed up with unemployment, young people are fleeing to foreign countries. On the same Punjabi soil, you will see people break into bhangras and giddhas. People used to laugh when they saw my face when I was a comedian. I had never imagined such a significant change in my life. When I go to public meetings, people come up to me and cry, expressing their grief that our children have gone and got into the wrong company, that the fire on the pyre is getting hot, that we need to be protected. I used to tell them that true saviour is either God, or the public. People must come forward. We can only serve as a means to it.”
Punjab may have fallen a lot but it knows how to rise back and stand on its feet: Bhagwant Mann
He concluded, “”Dreams are not those that are seen in sleep; dreams are those that do not allow you to sleep,” Abdul Kalam ji once said. The Aam Aadmi Party’s dream of making Punjab a better Punjab again keeps it awake at night. The AAP’s dream of providing jobs for Punjab’s youth does not let us go to sleep. The desire to improve Punjab’s agriculture keeps us awake at night. The dream of increasing employment and providing jobs for the youth, providing a peaceful environment for Punjab’s businessmen does not allow the entire Aam Aadmi Party to sleep. Our first goal is to establish the Aam Aadmi Party’s government in Punjab. Punjab has fallen many times, but it has also risen numerous times. Punjab knows how to rise back and stand. The youth of Punjab are going abroad for work; we will stop them and hire them here based on their qualifications. Whose heart desires to leave his home and work abroad? We must all work hard. If the Aam Aadmi Party forms a government, we will bring all the Punjabis along with us and live happily ever after.”
