NEW DELHI:
The Aam Aadmi Party raised the matter of regularisation of MCD’s Safai Karamcharis in today’s North MCD House proceeding. Leader of Opposition for North MCD Shri Vikas Goel stated – BJP councilors disrupted the House proceedings by creating a ruckus in the house. The agenda was enacted without debate thanks to the BJP leaders’ well-thought-out politics. The Safai Karamcharis have been waiting for regularisation for some 25 years. We had asked a short-term inquiry to encourage them to talk about regularisation. The mayor had also given his assent for the topic to be discussed. But, as usual, when it came time for discussion, the BJP seemed to avoid the topic time as well.
Shri Vikas Goel said, “The North MCD House held a meeting today. In light of this, we posed a short-term question about regularisation of the Safai Karamcharis. Surprisingly, the BJP was unable to get the commissioner to respond to our questions. The party leaders were spotted avoiding the conversation yet again. Despite the opposition’s support, the BJP councillors established a climate in the House where the agenda was carried without any debate or discussion. This goes against the principles of democracy and humanity. This time, too, the BJP was successful in achieving its political goals.”
He continued, “There were several items on the agenda to which we had raised objections. It was clear that BJP is trying to line its pockets with crores of rupees. The BJP makes numerous announcements to throw a veil of deceit over its employees but never implements it. The BJP has announced to regularize 6,646 substitute Safai Karamcharis. Whereas out of the sanctioned posts of Safai Karamcharis, only 1,723 posts are lying vacant. Obviously, they have yet again tried to mislead the employees and the people of Delhi. Even the remaining Karamcharis from the year 1998 are still not regularised. Daily wage sweepers appointed from the year 2003 till date are also waiting for their posts to be regularised.”
He stated, “BJP has passed another resolution and has granted a contract to set up milk booths in 76 parks. This is being done under a single tender which has been given to a company in Gujarat at a monthly fee of only Rs 1,79,927. In this, the condition of increasing the rent by 5 percent per annum has also been abolished in the already passed resolution due to which the corporation will lose revenue every year and in return, the pockets of BJP leaders will grow fuller.”
He added, “BJP leaders, knowing that their days in power are excruciatingly numbered, have been making a flurry of false promises. Their main objective is to fill their own pockets by doing corruption in selling the properties of the corporation. Despite protests from the Aam Aadmi Party, the BJP-ruled MCD handed over Jhandewalan Chest Clinic and Qutabgarh Dispensary to private hands. Earlier, the House had passed a resolution in this regard. Now the BJP has given the right to an NGO by changing the terms of this proposal, enabling it to further lease the work of the dispensary to a third party. With this, the NGO will not have any accountability towards the corporation and it will use the lands of these dispensaries arbitrarily.”
Shri Goel concluded, “BJP leaders intentionally incite the opposition by any means in every meeting. They do this to disrupt the meeting and pass their agenda without discussion so that they get an easy opportunity to fill their pockets and do corruption. Today, the sanitation workers of the corporation and the people of Delhi have seen how the BJP leaders prevented the Aam Aadmi Party from discussing the issues of their interest. The BJP will have to face the consequences of this in the coming elections of the corporation and the public will remove the BJP from the power of the corporation.”
