NEW DELHI:

To prepare Delhi government school students for international swimming championships and provide free of cost swimming training to every student, for their holistic development, the Kejriwal government has added two new state-of-the-art swimming pools to Delhi Government Schools. These swimming pools were inaugurated by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Shri Manish Sisodia at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya (SKV) Mayur Vihar and SKV Mandawali on Saturday. Shri Sisodia said that our government school infrastructure and facilities in them are no less than that of any international universities like Harvard and Oxford. The Kejriwal government is committed to provide best of the world facilities to children in Delhi government schools. These buildings are even better than some of the premier institutions of India such as IITs and IIMs. He added that with the addition of these two new pools today, Delhi government schools now have 24 state-of-the-art swimming pools. Registration for these pools will open from April 1 and students will be given training for free. Continuing additions to sports infrastructure in our Delhi government schools will set a fitness revolution in the national capital.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that we want every child in Delhi government schools to learn swimming, as it not only prepares children for a particular kind of sport but also improves their physical and mental health in the long run. Now that we have a free of cost facility to learn swimming, students must take out time and register for that.

Shri Sisodia added that currently students from our schools go to learn swimming at private schools where they are charged heavily. But from April 1, both government school students as well as private school students will get swimming coaching for free at these pools in Delhi government schools. All Delhi students are invited to register themselves here. We have well-trained coaches at these pools to provide training to the budding swimmers.

Students from all across Delhi, irrespective of their socio-economic background, will have equal and free access to these pools at Delhi government schools and this is what Baba Saheb and Bhagat Singh always dreamt of. Every child is treated equally in our schools and we are committed to provide the best quality education to every child, added the Deputy Chief Minister while inviting students from private schools to swimming pools of Delhi government schools.
