AAP has continuously exposed the anti-education face of the BJP. However, today, the BJP ruled MCD has gone as far as taking away the right to education of Dalit students by closing one school after the other in Delhi. AAP Senior Leader and MLA Shri Vishesh Ravi stated — BJP ruled MCD is so cruel that it is shutting a 60 year old primary school on Tank Road to force students to go 2 kms away. Not the first time; BJP ruled MCD is habituated of selling schools to private builders. The school being shut caters to underprivileged & Dalit households; why does the BJP not want their children to study.
Shri Ravi said, “For the last 2 months, we have been continuously exposing the distatorous state of the schools of MCD. Especially in Karol Bagh, MCD has sold several schools and given contracts to build parkings there. After selling half the land of a school on Pusa Road, a parking project is being developed there. But their thirst for money knows no bounds. There is a place called Anandpuri Khan near Tank Road in Karol Bagh, where MCD runs a primary school. This school is almost 60 years old. It is a coed school, where both boys and girls study. This school runs in 2 shifts. About 250-300 children study here. On 7 February, the MCD suddenly issued an order saying that this school will soon be shut and that the children studying in the school will be transferred to the school located about 2 km from there.”
He added, “When the children reached the school yesterday, they were suddenly told that ‘you do not have to come to this school from now on. You will be sent to another school.’ We confirmed this by talking to the Principal of the school. The locals also allege that since Tank Road is a commercial area, MCD will shut the school and sell its land to a private builder so that a shopping complex can be built there. It is a shame that MCD is shutting its schools one after the other. The school being shut caters to underprivileged & Dalit households; why does the BJP not want their children to study? Such families are hardly able to send their children to school. There are no other schools nearby where they can easily send their children. Due to the high fees of private schools, they are unable to send their children there.”
He concluded, “I want to ask the BJP ruled MCD, why are you taking away the right to education from the children of poor downtrodden families? Why are you suddenly closing a 60 year old school which was built for the poor? You know that children in the age group of 4-7 come to primary schools to study. Parents want their child to live nearby and study. If those children have to go to study at a distance of 2 km, how will they get there? AAP vehemently opposed this move. We request the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to take cognizance of this matter as well.”
