Fourth time that the Kejriwal Government has requested a joint meeting with all states; Environment Minister Gopal Rai had placed 3 requests last year too

NEW DELHI:

Delhi’s Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai has written to the Union Environment Minister again, calling for a joint-meeting of NCR states over pollution. Shri Gopal Rai stated that he has requested the Union Environment Minister to convene a joint meeting with Environment Ministers & experts of NCR states to formulate an action plan against pollution. Centre for Science and Environment report states 69% pollution comes to Delhi from the NCR region. This is the fourth time that the Kejriwal Government has requested a joint meeting with all states. The Environment Minister had placed 3 requests on the same last year too.

In his letter to the Union Environment Minister, Shri Gopal Rai stated, “As a result of all the measures taken by the Delhi government to reduce the level of pollution in Delhi, the pollution level inside the state is seeing a steady decline. Data on Delhi’s AQI Analysis from 2018 to 2021 states that the days of ‘Satisfactory and Moderate’ category of AQI are increasing while the days of ‘Poor’ category are decreasing.”

He further wrote, “The report released by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) based on the data of IITM states that 31% of Delhi’s pollution levels are from internal sources, while 69% are from NCR states. It is clear from this that to improve the air quality of Delhi the whole NCR region needs to implement solutions. All the states will have to make efforts together. I had requested you earlier on 7th November 2021 as well as 11th November and 3rd December 2021 that a joint meeting of the NCR states should be called.”

Shri Rai concluded, “It is a humble request to you once again to immediately convene a joint meeting with the environment ministers and experts of the states of NCR and prepare a necessary joint action plan for the future so that the level of pollution can be reduced.”
