NEW DELHI
Food & Civil Supplies Minister Shri Imran Hussain on Saturday assured that sufficient ration is available in the Delhi and fair price shops are distributing free ration to all ration beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY) in smooth and fair manner.
The rumours regarding delay in supply of foodgrains for the allocation month of March 2022 under NFSA, not increasing the number of trucks for supply of SFAs from FCI godowns to the designated FPSs are not true. The Minister expressed his deep concern regarding the rumours being spread, and sought a detailed report from the Commissioner ( Food & Civil Supplies) and CMD (DSCSC) in this regard.
Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC) ascertained that it is totally false statement that Corporation has not supplied SFAs at 600 FPSs pertaining to March 2022 allocation under NFSA as the DSCSC has already supplied 370663.46 qtls (i.e. 99.14%) of SFAs to FPSs under NFSA allocation for the month of March against the total allocation of 373885.70 qtls upto 08.04.2022 till yesterday and the balance quantity has also been completed today itself. Further, the Department had already completed the 100% allocation (i.e. 363899.65 qtls.) of SFAs under PMGKAY for the month of March 2022 .
It is pertinent to mention here that due to the smooth and orderly distribution of free ration under the ONORC scheme, Delhi has witnessed over 10 lakh migrant ration beneficiaries taking ration through portability under the ONORC scheme. The underprivileged of Delhi have been receiving free ration ever since the pandemic struck in March-April 2020 and needy people are getting free ration through their ration cards and also those not having ration cards.
The Ration Dealers association also requested the F & S Minister to look into their demand for a rise in the ration quota under the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme.
Shri Imran Hussain assured that no beneficiaries will be deprived of getting free ration in Delhi. Delhi Government is committed to provide free ration to all the entitled beneficiaries. The Minister assured the beneficiaries that sufficient ration is available and there is no need to panic in obtaining the ration.
The Department also found that it is also a false statement that DSCSC transport contractors have not increased the number of trucks after release of additional allocation under PMGKAY as DSCSC has completed the supplies of SFAs within the extended date allowed by Government of India.
The Food & Supply Minister of Delhi has been constantly visiting ration shops since the rise of Corona pandemic and personally interacting with the beneficiaries for addressing their grievances and ensuring that they do not face any problem in getting free ration.
The Minister warned the transporters who are involved in activities such as diversion of food grain, deliberate delay in their transportation, will face stern action for such irregularities.
Shri Imran Hussain appealed to the Union Government to increase the number of beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act and said, “we have repeatedly pursued the matter of extending the beneficiary limit by about 10 per cent to increase Delhi’s quota to 80 lakh from the existing around 72 lakhs ration beneficiaries. This limit has remained unchanged for the past decades.”
