PDSU strongly condemns the violence unleashed by ABVP in JNU campus. The dispute started with choice of food. ABVP wanted to prevent cooking of Non veg today. The goons of ABVP have resorted to violence on the students wanted to have food of their choice and resisted this ‘food fascism’. ABVP picked up tube lights, bricks or any other thing to attack students. Many students have received serious injuries while a lot more suffered minor injury. It must be noted that on Sundays chicken dish for nonvegetarians and paneer dish for vegetarians are always served.
Police entered the campus but only to be mute spectators. Their pandemonium continued in front of police. This is not the first or isolated incident. ABVP is systematically trying to disrupt peace and dominate the campuses by scaring away common students. They are emboldened by Power of RSS led government at the centre.
PDSU strongly condemns this violence abeted by police and backed by RSS and its government. We call upon the students and democratic sections of society to rise to the occasion and stand against this hooliganism. What to eat is a constitutional right of citizens and it can not be imposed on others. A few goons of ABVP should not be given right to decide our food.
We demand that proper cases should be registered against these goons and measures should be taken to prevent the repetition of such incidents.
