16 parks of Delhi to be named after unsung freedom fighters, state naming authority approves proposal

State naming authority approves renaming of ‘Government Boys Senior Secondary School (GBSSS) No-2 Adarsh Nagar’, to ‘Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya’

Kejriwal Government’s Schools of Specialized Excellence will now be known as Dr B.R. Ambedkar Schools of Specialized Excellence. The decision was taken by the Kejriwal Government during a meeting of the state naming authority held on Tuesday. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia who chaired the meeting said that now Delhi Government’s Schools of Specialised Excellence have been renamed as ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Schools of Specialized Excellence’. It is an honor for us to name our schools after him. Having their schools named after Dr B. R Ambedkar will bring the sense of responsibility among students to serve the nation and make it an even better place to live in future.”

Shri Manish Sisodia said that Babasaheb Ambedkar wanted people to inculcate the values of freedom and equality among themselves and it is possible only through education. He said that following the tradition of honoring martyrs, freedom fighters and nation-builders Delhi Government’s SoSEs have been named after Dr. B.R Ambedkar. These schools will be a source of motivation for us to make the education system of India better each day.

Notably, Delhi government has established 31 SoSEs in the past two years, of these 30 SoSE which were renamed after Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on Tuesday, and one had already been given the name of freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh and is called Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Force Preparatory School. During the meeting state naming authority also approved the renaming of Government Boys Senior Secondary School (GBSSS) No-2 Adarsh Nagar after olympian Ravi Dahiya and now it will be named as ‘Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya’.

Along with this, the state naming authority has approved the naming of 16 parks under Delhi Development Authority (DDA) after several freedom fighters. These parks will be named after freedom fighters like Asaf Ali, Avadh Behari, Master Amir Chand, Lala Hardayal, Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, Gobind Behari Lal, General Shah Nawaz Khan, Satyawati, Colonel Prem Sehgal, Basant Kumar Biwas, Bhai Balmukund, Dr. Sushila Nayyar, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Brij Krishna Chandiwala, Swami Shraddhanand and Deshbandhu CF Andrews.

Shri Sisodia said that these are the unsung heroes who fought bravely to get freedom and we need to pay them their due respect.
