NEW DELHI:
A harrowing incident of violation and abuse of all kinds of boundaries and privacy transpired recently at a school run by the BJP-ruled MCD. Despite huge controversies about the matter, the BJP refuses to act on it or even comment on it. Holding the BJP accountable for its criminal negligence, AAP Senior Leader and Delhi Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Smt Rakhi Birla stated – Heinous crimes were committed with young girls by strangers who barged into a school run by BJP-ruled MCD. It has been four days, and no action has been taken against the perpetrator. Why is the BJP silent on this matter till now? The accused clearly has ties with the BJP as the school administration tried its best to suppress the matter due to pressure from the party. While BJP and Delhi Police have remained silent, Delhi Commission for Women has summoned the Police and demanded strict action at the earliest. At the same time, MLA Smt Bandana Kumari stated – It is shameful that when the girl who faced the humiliating conduct and her parents complained to the principal, they were told to ‘let the matter go and move on’. Delhi Government’s Education Department had ordered schools to install CCTVs but the BJP-ruled MCD ignored the order. The Aam Aadmi Party demands the police commissioner to file an FIR and arrest the guilty immediately.
AAP Senior Leader and Delhi Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Smt Rakhi Birla said, “It is a matter of great shame that on 30th April, an unknown man infiltrated the premises of an MCD school in Bhajanpura and harassed a number of girls in the classroom. Despite this harrowing incident of sexual offence, the behaviour and lack of action on the part of the BJP-led MCD administration has been highly condemnable, and the entire state watched as the MCD sat in silene on the entire matter. Over the past 15 years that the BJP has been in power at the MCD, they have made no progress but simply dedicated themselves to ransacking the entirety of Delhi on one hand, and completely neglecting and making a mockery of the education and security of students in MCD schools on the other.”
She added, “Through this shameful incident, it has come to light how unbothered and incompetent the teachers in these MCD schools are that they have to concern towards their students. It stems out of the fact that the administration, officials, and school staffers know that the MCD itself is so incompetent under the BJP that it won’t harm them. I am sure that the man involved in the said incident had some connection to the BJP that the principal of the school tried to cover up the matter instead of filing complaints. Looking at the larger picture, in fact, it is appalling that the BJP which is responsible for Delhi’s law and order through its Central Government, has no regard for its duties. At this point, I am scared to even think of the ten to twelve lac students under the BJP’s MCD schools – about what they must be bearing with on a regular basis, and what the state of their mental health would be. Will these poor young girls ever be able to muster up the courage to go to school again, where such heinous incidents take place, to even step out of their homes for just a few hours during the day?”
She further stated, “Not a single BJP leader, MCD councillor, officer, or worker came forward to address this issue. Day-in day-out we see these very leaders and councillors exaggerate non-issues, and sensationalise insignificant matters, but when it comes to the safety of young girls, of women and general safety of the people of Delhi, the BJP vanishes into thin air. It has been repeatedly seen that be instances of riots, harassment of women, or any other tension or violence inducing incident, it is always found to be directly or indirectly linked to BJP leaders. In this vein, a shocking and terrifying incident takes place where young girls are left traumatised by an unknown intruder, and the entire BJP-led MCD remains silent on the matter. But at the same time, the Delhi Commission for Women stepped up to get the police involved and wrote a letter demanding action against the offender at the earliest. This incident revealed that the students studying in the school of MCD are not safe, that they are prone to such disturbing incidents at any time during their school hours. In this case, if the MCD, the BJP and the Delhi Police do not take strict action, then we are ready to take to the streets if needed in order to protect our daughters.”
AAP MLA Smt Bandana Kumari said, “A shameful incident took place with two girls in an MCD school in Bhajanpura and that too during school hours. It is horrific to know that an outsider so easily managed to enter the school premise and harass two school girls. This has happened in a nation where we have slogans such as ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’. It is only if the girls are safe in school that they will be able to study well. In this incident, when the parents of the girls took their complaint to the principal of the school, the latter tried to hush up the matter. This is extremely painful. A principal is in-charge of the safety of all the students, including the girls of the school. Earlier, the education department of the Delhi Government had put out guidelines that were to be followed by all the schools, including MCD schools such as this one in Bhajanpura, where they were directed to install CCTV cameras in their premises. None of the MCD schools so far have implemented this order, and nor have they tried to make an effort towards its implementation. In this incident, the school authorities disregarded all the conditions that are mandatory for schools to ensure the safety of girls. Until now, no FIR has been filed in the matter and nor have the Delhi Police undertaken any action in this matter. The accused in the case are still at large.”
She concluded, “Today, I speak here on behalf of the citizens of Delhi and also as a mother, and urge the Delhi Police and particularly the Delhi Police Commissioner to catch the accused in the case who dared to harass the school girls in Bhajanpura. The Aam Aadmi Party wants strict action to be taken against them so that a strong example is set up for all those who think about harassing our children. It is shocking that an incident such as this has been taken lightly by the BJP-run MCD. Under normal circumstances, the principal of a school would not have the authority to try and downplay such an incident, so I would like to know under whose influence did the principal think that it would be alright to suppress such an incident.”
