NEW DELHI/TELANGANA
Aam Aadmi Party national leader MLA Somnath Bharti has demanded the Telangana government to immediately take over the sacked field assistants. He participated in a virtual press meet organised by Telangana Unit of AAP on Thursday. Mt. Kejriwal, the national convener of the AAP, has promised to remain vigilant until the issue of 7,651 field assistants stranded on the road with his family due to the government’s ill-considered decision is resolved. In July 2019, the KCR Govt issued new guidelines not to extend contracts of Field Assistants. They were fired for allegedly going on strike in protest. Field assistants who have been working since 2006 are said to be on the road with their families.
He said there was no security for jobs in the separate state which the people of Telangana had fought and achieved. He said it was worrying that young people were committing suicide with the mindset that jobs would not come. Allegedly, the fruits of development after the formation of the state, the positions went only to the KCR family. He criticised the state government for ignoring the High Court order to hire field assistants as evidence of government negligence. He said the central and state governments should take full responsibility for the dismissal of field assistants and the diversion of employment guarantee funds to other schemes. He demanded the whereabouts of Rs 4,000 crore allocated every year for two years. He blamed the state government for diverting funds from the Employment Guarantee Scheme to other schemes and asked the Govt to come clear on this. He said state government officials were responding somewhat positively in the case of field assistants’ jobs only after the Aam Aadmi Party intervened. Somnath Bharti demanded that the government take back the dismissed field assistants and support the families of the deceased field assistants. He demanded that on the line of 1 cr Compensation scheme of Arvind Kejriwal govt in Delhi, KCR govt must give 1 cr to each of the families of field Assistants who committed suicide because of inhuman act, of KCR Govt, of taking back the jobs of Field Assistants.
AAP Telangana leader Indira Shobhan alleged that the Centre had been silent for two years after removing the field assistants and did not even care about the funds. The Centre, which manages the employment guarantee scheme directly, said it would hire field assistants in compliance with the High Court orders. Indira Shobhan also demanded full payment of salaries of field assistants for a period of two years along with four months’ arrears. Indira Shobhan warned the central and state governments that otherwise there would be a large-scale agitation near the Jantar Mantar.
