NEW DELHI
The Kejriwal Government organised a programme in honour of the martyrs of freedom, called ‘Ek Shaam, Aazadi ke Shaheedon ke Naam’. During this, Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai stated – It is our collective responsibility to remember the martyrs and inspire children to draw inspiration from their lives. Taking inspiration from the lives of immortal martyrs, one should make a pledge today to put an end to societal evils. If Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs had fought separately in the freedom struggle, we would not be free. The hatred instilled in the veins of today’s youth must end.
The patriotic program ‘Ek Sham Azadi Ke Martyrs Ke Naam’ was organized by the Delhi Government today. The program was organized at Babarpur Bus Terminal, which included some special performances on the topic of patriotism.
On this occasion, Delhi Cabinet Minister Shri Gopal Rai said, “The inhabitants of Delhi, along with the rest of the country, are commemorating the country’s seventeenth anniversary of independence today. We have all met here now in the evening, remembering the freedom martyrs. First and foremost, I want to honour the heroes who kissed the gallows for our freedom, who remained imprisoned for years, and sacrificed everything for the sake of this nation, and who are no longer with us now. However, some brave free warriors from that time are still alive and well inside this Delhi to inspire us. One of them, Honourable Vashisht ji, a freedom fighter, is among us.”
He continued, “We have gotten our family and society out of those trying circumstances by battling and fighting against Corona for two long years. Because of the Corona situation, we’re finally getting together after two years. You are all aware that whether it is the 26th of January or the 15th of August, whether it is Deepawali or Eid Milan, this Babarpur bus station is waving the tricolour, which is the pride of our country. It is beneath this flag that we celebrate Diwali with as much grandeur as we do Eid Milan celebrations for the sake of the country’s unity, integrity, and mutual brotherhood. However, our link has been severed for the past two years, but thanks to the almighty, we have emerged from the Coronavirus crisis crisis, at a time when the entire country is commemorating the country’s sacrifices on the seventy fifth anniversary of independence. We’ve all gathered here for the pre-Holi festivities. I hope that, just as we celebrated Barsana Holi here, we would be able to gather here even after Ramadan to celebrate Eid.”
He added, “Begging did not bring the country freedom. To liberate the country, the revolutionaries have made sacrifices. Because of the way hatred is instilled in the veins of the youth, if Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs fought separately at the time, the country would not have been free. Our unity was the most important Brahmastra for freedom. When people of all religions tied their fists, even those whose sun never sets had their sun set, and the British were forced to leave India.”
He stated, “Our forefathers, the freedom fighters, had envisaged a free India. Have we progressed now, according to their definition of freedom? How far have we come toward realising the Constitution’s vision of a perfect country? It is vital to keep track of where we are as a country and as individuals. Today, it is also crucial to discuss what we have lost and acquired throughout these years of independence.”
Shri Gopal Rai concluded, “Patriots and freedom warriors gave up their comforts and waged a lengthy battle for freedom, and the country gained independence after innumerable sacrifices. Taking inspiration from their lives, one should make a commitment today to end societal problems. History offers essential lessons to human civilization, and such events serve to remind us of our forefathers’ sacrifices for liberty. We can keep the flame of liberty blazing among the people by knowing its values.”
On this occasion, the Delhi Government presented several patriotic songs. The programme drew a large crowd, and the atmosphere was drenched in patriotism.
