People of Delhi should be allowed to decide who should run the MCD: Durgesh Pathak
NEW DELHI:
The Aam Aadmi Party leaders will gherao the BJP headquarter in protest of postponement of MCD elections tomorrow. Announcing the protest, Senior AAP Leader and MCD In-charge Shri Durgesh Pathak said, “Fearing its defeat, BJP has resorted to cheap tricks to get MCD elections deferred. The BJP has manipulated an institution like the Election Commission for its benefit. We challenge the BJP to not run away from the fight and take on the revolution of AAP in the coming polls.”
Shri Durgesh Pathak said, “The Aam Aadmi Party has persevered through some challenging times – its volunteers have born the brunt of the police batons, spent countless days in detention, and after this long and arduous struggle has the Aam Aadmi Party come to stand on its own two feet, and transform the face of Delhi, and take care of its people. The BJP leaders and members believe that they will carry out any number of misdeeds under their MCD rule, and no one will bat an eyelid. But, I would like to remind everyone that back in 2013, AAP formed its government in Delhi, which got disbanded within forty nine days following which the BJP did not let assembly elections take place in the National Capital for the longest time. And so, workers of the Aam Aadmi Party went from street to street, protesting this disdain for democracy being practised by the BJP. They went door-to-door, faced violence from police forces, and brought the people of Delhi together, ready to vote for a new government in their state. Thus, after consistent efforts and rallying the Delhi public behind us, the Aam Aadmi Party wore the BJP and its ego down, and hence assembly elections were held as a result.”
He continued, “Similarly, the BJP knows how terribly it has ransacked each and every corner of Delhi by staying in power in the MCD for the past 15 years. Today, the MCD has become absolutely powerless and bankrupt, and its poor situation has reached such lows that its own employees are not being paid their salaries due for months. Moreover, the MCD’s job is to keep the National Capital clean and spotless, but we can see for ourselves how dreadfully polluted and filthy most areas of Delhi are. The MCD elections were supposed to take place this month. However, the BJP, with its cheap tricks and blackmail, threatened the Election Commission of India to defer these elections. In order to take forward the demand for these free and fair elections in the Municipal Body to be conducted and to put an end to BJP’s authoritarian rule, each and every party worker and concerned Delhi resident will collect at the Aam Aadmi Party office. From there, we will take on the BJP Delhi office, tomorrow at 10 AM sharp. Our workers will show their unparalleled support at ITO tomorrow, and plan out a blueprint for a meaningful fight against BJP’s misgovernance. Our single demand to the BJP is that – Do not run away. Let the elections take place. Leave the decision of these elections in the hands of the people of Delhi, and respect the outcome.”
