NEW DELHI:
The Aam Aadmi Party has taken large strides in eliminating corruption from Delhi under the leadership of National Convenor and Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Soon, Punjab will embark upon the anti-corruption revolution under AAP’s model of corruption-free governance. Elaborating on the same on Thursday, Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “AAP is here to eliminate corruption from Punjab, after doing so in Delhi. Soon we will eliminate corruption from the whole country. When we formed AAP’s 49 day government in Delhi, I had issued a helpline number and sent 30-32 officers because of that. In just 49 days, we did not just reduce corruption; we completely eradicated it from Delhi. The Prime Minister snatched away Delhi Government’s anti-corruption branch to stop us from implementing our anti-corruption blueprint. AAP’s Punjab Government has taken a landmark decision of issuing an anti-corruption WhatsApp number. This will rid Punjab of its woes and automatically end 99% corruption in the state. Infuriating that even after 75 years of independence an Aam Aadmi is asked to pay up bribes when they go to a government office. If you elect such parties to power whose ministers and CMs themselves are corrupt then you’ll also be asked to pay bribes. In the last 75 years, only the states of Delhi and Punjab have elected honest governments to power by voting for AAP. Only AAP’s governments dare to ask people to complain against corruption and assure action against the corrupt. Kejriwal doesn’t take bribes, Bhagwant Mann doesn’t take bribes, our ministers don’t take bribes; we run governments with unwavering honesty. We don’t set ‘collection targets’ for officers. We only care for changing the system and eradicating corruption. I appeal to all officers of Punjab to work with utmost honesty; we have to end corruption and bring a revolution together. While, Senior AAP Leader and Delhi Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia said, “During Punjab elections, we heard everywhere – no work is done in this state without money. If someone asks for a bribe, record its proof. CM Bhagwant Mann will send them to jail; this is the Arvind Kejriwal Model of Governance.”
AAP National Convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal informed about the setting up of an anti-corruption helpline in Punjab and said, “Punjab CM Shri Bhagwant Mann Ji has made a huge announcement on eliminating corruption from the state of Punjab. He has announced that on March 23, Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Ji’s Shahadat Diwas, a WhatsApp number will be issued as an anti-corruption helpline. If any officer or agent in Punjab asks a citizen to pay up a bribe to get their work done, they can contact this number. This country is riddled with corruption, it doesn’t matter what the work at hand is, even if it is as small as getting ration cards, marriage certificates, or caste certificates made or getting an electricity connection, the officers force you to pay bribes. The Punjab CM has announced that if someone asks you to pay some bribe, don’t refuse to do so. Just get your phone out discreetly, record an audio or video of the corrupt officer. Send that video to the anti-corruption number. This will be his personal whatsapp number. The Punjab Government will immediately act on it and take the strictest step possible as has been assured by CM Mann.”
Talking about the impact of the same decision in Delhi, he continued, “Back during our 49-day government in Delhi, I had made the exact same announcement. We got a huge number of audios and videos sent on our whatsapp hotline. Within 49 days, some 30-32 officers were sent to jail. An Aam Aadmi’s phone became their strongest weapon. Because of that weapon, we eliminated every form of corruption possible. No one dared to ask for a bribe. If someone did, all one needed to say was “should I take my phone out and send your video to the CM?”, this had put fear in the minds of the officer and they’d immediately do their work.”
He dissected how conventional political parties shy away from talking of ending corruption and added, “But in 2015, when we came back with a thumping majority and tried to implement it again, the Prime Minister snatched away the anti-corruption branch from us. He issued an order and took the branch from us to stop us from implementing it. We were unfazed by their tyranny and still managed to eliminate corruption through progressive governance models. But to think why the anti-corruption branch was taken away from us, is a matter of concern. It has been 75 years since India achieved independence. Yet, whenever an Aam Aadmi visits a government office, they’re asked for bribes, regardless of what the matter is. Their agony doesn’t end there, they’re humiliated, made fun of. This happens because all these legacy political parties and their leaders are part of this broken system of harassing the public. The clerk at the government office barely keeps a penny, the lion’s share ends up in the pockets of the ministers and the CM while being routed through an ascending line. They charge ridiculous amounts of money for transfer postings of officers themselves. So one can imagine the scale of corruption taking place. When the CM and the ministers themselves are indulged in such bigotry, they’d want the poorest of the poor to pay bribes too, they have no morality left in them.”
Shri Kejriwal further elaborated on AAP’s anti-corruption agenda and said, “Only the Aam Aadmi Party believes in corruption free governance. In the last 75 years, only the states of Delhi and Punjab have elected honest governments to power by voting for AAP. It is only AAP who has the guts, and the will to ask the public to complain against corruption out loud. Why so? Because Kejriwal doesn’t take bribes. Because Bhagwant Mann doesn’t take bribes. Because our ministers don’t take bribes. We are staunch patriots for whom loving the country means believing in eradicating corruption. Not a single department under our governments has been asked to set targets of ‘cash collection’. We are here to change this system and throw the bigots out.”
He further laid out a vision for a corruption-free Punjab and concluded, “CM Bhagwant Mann’s announcement will prove to be a milestone in Punjab. It will mark the dawn of an era of corruption free governance. Just like how we eliminated corruption in Delhi, we will do so in Punjab too. The people of Punjab would get much sought after relief. They’d also use their phone as a weapon against corruption. In most cases, we’d only need fear to get work done, the rest will of course be spared no sympathy by the Punjab Government. I believe that most officers are very honest, and it is a handful who spoil the broth with their malice. I appeal to the officers of Punjab to work with honesty as well. The people of Punjab have chosen Inquilab. They have great hopes that we together have to fulfil. We have shown that corruption can be ended with honesty and the support of the public. Delhi got freedom from corruption, Punjab’s next on the list and soon the whole country will join this revolution.”
At the same time, Senior AAP Leader and Delhi Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia tweeted, “During Punjab elections, we heard everywhere – no work is done in this state without money. Bribes are asked for every work. Many congratulations to the people of Punjab. Now if someone asks for a bribe, record its proof. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will send them to jail. This is the Arvind Kejriwal Model of Governance.”
