CM Arvind Kejriwal pays tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on Shaheed Diwas
NEW DELHI:
Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal paid tribute to freedom martyrs Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on Shaheed Diwas at the Delhi Legislative Assembly today. The CM stated – Every Indian will forever be indebted to these immortal heroes of the country for their supreme sacrifice. No party or government worked towards realising Bhagat Singh or Babasaheb’s dreams in over 70 years since India gained independence. AAP is the only party to take a step in the right direction. The Delhi Government has put an end to dirty politics of corruption and discrimination, and introduced an honest model for progress in education, health, electricity, water, & roads. AAP Government offices in Delhi and Punjab will now solely bear displays of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar, not of any party leaders or ministers. I appeal to the BJP to do the same in their party offices as well.
Paying tribute to eminent freedom fighters Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, on their day of martyrdom, the Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Today, the entire country is celebrating Shaheed Diwas, a prominent day of martyrdom in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. It was on this very day that Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were hanged to death by the British for fighting to free their country from the shackles of oppression. Bhagat Singh laid his life down for the country at a very young age, made the supreme sacrifice, and he has been the heartbeat of every young Indian ever since. The youth of the country has drawn a great deal of inspiration from his life and his ideals over the past 100 years. However, it pains me to witness that the dreams for which Shaheed Bhagat Singh sacrificed his life, have not come true even 75 years after India gained its independence. Not a single state or central government attempted to work for the welfare of the common public. Merely petty politics has taken place in the name of governance, irrespective of whichever party has held power.
He continued, “However, after 70 years since India became an independent nation, I am deeply elated to be a part of the only government that stepped up to work honestly in the interests of the common people – the Aam Aadmi Party Government – which put an end to the dirty politics of corruption, plundering, and discrimination, and installed in its place an honest model for progress in education and health, for electricity, water, roads, farmers & labourers. The Aam Aadmi Party became the first government which began the process of fulfilling the dream which was envisioned by Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, and we are consistently following the path laid down by their ideals. I am beyond thrilled that the Delhi Government, along with the newly formed Punjab Government have taken the crucial decision of solely displaying portraits of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar, and not any party leaders or ministers.”
He further said, “The Aam Aadmi Party recently formed its government in Punjab. In order to pay tribute to the great Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Mann and his Cabinet of Ministers have taken their oath in Bhagat Singh’s hometown Khatkar Kalan. The entire world watched as the Punjab CM, instead of participating in a lavish oath taking ceremony at the Raj Bhawan or in the state capital, chose to pay his respects along with the entire Punjab state government by going to Bhagat Singh’s birthplace for his officiation.”
The CM added, “With regard to the decision taken by the Delhi Government, I appeal to everyone belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party that they display the portraits of Babasaheb Ambedkar and Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh in all of their offices as well.”
