NEW DELHI:

Exposing another one of BJP-ruled MCD’s scandals, all three of Aam Aadmi Party’s Leaders of Opposition spoke out against its failure in keeping Delhi clean. They informed that the BJP-ruled MCD took 70 crores to collect waste from homes, gave tender to a private company for 280 crores, yet failed to ensure proper waste management – all of this points to the possibility of a major scam. Giving more details, East MCD LoP Shri Manoj Tyagi stated – The private company Metro Waste Handling Pvt Ltd, which has been assigned waste management by the BJP-ruled MCD, has not cleaned streets and colonies of waste for the past one week. The company is clearly colluding with BJP leaders in a massive corruption scandal. The BJP-ruled MCD’s door-to-door garbage collection scheme cost Rs 70 crore, and now Metro Waste is being paid Rs 280 crores annually for the same work. Despite this, piles of garbage are found lining Delhi’s streets. South MCD LoP Shri Prem Chauhan further elaborated – The BJP is giving Rs 50 crores per month to private companies for waste management, but in reality, no work is happening on the ground. No contractor is ready to work for the MCD’s waste management throughout Delhi. BJP must answer whose pockets all the money is ending up in. To this, North MCD LoP Shri Vikas Goel added – All three MCDs are running at a loss of Rs 16 thousand crores. In reality, however this is not a loss, because this money has gone into the pockets of BJP leaders. These companies are owned by relatives and friends of the BJP, and it is from them that the BJP leaders receive hefty commissions.

Exposing yet another one of BJP-ruled MCD, AAP Leader of Opposition for East MCD Shri Manoj Tyagi said, “We are witnessing a consistent fall in the Swachhta rankings in Delhi. In the cleanliness survey of 47 cities, regions in the East MCD have secured abysmal ranks like 42 and 46. In the same direction, another one of BJP’s antics has come to light. The MCD handed over the work of waste collection from homes, cleaning of roads, and removal of silt from drains to a private company called Metro Waste Handling Pvt Ltd. This company has been assigned this work for the past year or so, including various other responsibilities like generating awareness among the public to ensure cleanliness, putting up boards, installing 100L and 12L dustbins on roadsides, arrangement of underground waste management systems – none of which it has succeeded in delivering on. This private company selected by the BJP-ruled MCD failed to complete any of the tasks which were listed in their contract.”

He added, “Moreover, over the past few days since Navami, the streets of Jamnapar have been flooded with waste, with it seeping into every single locality and colony in the region. This has made it extremely tough for local residents to step out of their homes. The waste found on the streets posed a significant obstacle in people’s way to temples and mosques on auspicious occasions of Navami and the month of Ramadan. The situation is so dire that the company which was responsible to ensure cleanliness of the region has not picked up a single trace of garbage from the streets in EDMC, thereby causing the waste to pile up and become a hazard to the environment as well as those living around the locality. Be it a temple, mosque, church or a gurudwara – all holy sites are home to piles of waste. Today is a highly auspicious day for the Sikh community, with Baisakhi melas set up all over the city. However, the state of hygiene and waste management in these areas is atrocious. The BJP-ruled MCD has failed to deliver on its responsibility of ensuring clean streets in Delhi, which are now lined with heaps of garbage instead.”

He concluded, “When the door-to-door garbage collection scheme was started by the MCD itself, Rs 70 crore was spent annually. Today, Metro Waste is being paid Rs 280 crores annually for the same work. Despite this, there are piles of garbage found on Delhi’s streets. The BJP, in connivance with Metro Waste Handling Pvt Ltd, is busy with corruption – dedicated to squandering money and filling its own pocket. The BJP-ruled MCD has proved incapable of maintaining cleanliness, which is its single most important responsibility – that it has completely faltered on completing, be it through its own employees or a private company. I ask the BJP, that when Metro Waste Handling Pvt Ltd was given the responsibility of waste management and other duties, why has no work been done over the past one week, especially in the festive season? Why are there heaps of garbage outside our places of worship? BJP leaders, who claim to work towards ‘Swachhta’, towards making Delhi clean, must take accountability and respond to these questions.”

Elaborating on similar grievances of the public in the South, AAP Leader of Opposition for SDMC Shri Prem Chauhan said, “The dismal situation of contractors failing to deliver on their duties is similar in the South MCD, as it is in North and East MCD. On one hand, the BJP has signed lavish contracts and given excessive amounts of money to private companies for waste management amounting to around Rs 50 crores per month. However, in reality, these companies are not doing any work on the ground. The MCD tendered the private company for other tasks including removal of silt from drains, but contractors are not showing up or doing the work. Even after removal, silt is found piling up next to drains, but not being picked up, further polluting the streets. When we talked to the officials, we found out that the contractor was not ready to do the work. Why do these incompetent contractors have BJP’s protection? The BJP has dragged MCD so far down that no one is ready to listen and the contractor is not ready to do the work. In such a situation, we demand to know whose pockets these crores of rupees are ending up in and why. BJP state president Adesh Gupta keeps trying to find faults in Delhi government’s work but fails to point out even a single shortcoming. He should rather spend this time doing his own work than trying to defame CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal. At whose behest is this major scam in the MCD taking place? The people of Delhi are not going to deviate from the BJP’s ploy to postpone elections. They are seeing the corrupt BJP-ruled MCD for who they are, and once the BJP leaders step out into Delhi’s streets, they will also come to know what the people of Delhi feel about them.”

North MCD Leader of Opposition Vikas Goel said, “Garbage can be found almost anywhere in Delhi. Garbage mountains have sprung up in every nook and cranny of Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s intention is not to clean up the mess. They only know how to make money from this trash, and ill management of waste. Each of the three MCDs is losing Rs 16,000 crore. This money is not magically vanishing, but ending up in the pockets of BJP leaders. In Delhi, waste segregation machines have been installed at all three landfill sites. The machine, which costs 17 lakh rupees, is rented for 18 months. One can then imagine how big of a scam is going on. Leaders of the BJP are willing to go to any length to benefit from exploitation of ordinary citizens. The people behind these private companies will end up being discovered as BJP leaders’ relatives and friends. The hefty commission is distributed to these BJP leaders. As a result of their connivance, notices are never issued to these companies, and their tenders are continually renewed for years, despite not doing any work. The BJP is engaging in a massive corruption scandal by not cleaning Delhi, and squandering the money allocated for it. The public has become familiar with all of their ploys and antics over the last 15 years, which is why the BJP has withdrawn from the elections. Whenever the Bharatiya Janata Party conducts elections, the people of Delhi will teach them a lesson, which they will remember for the rest of their lives.”
