NEW DELHI:

As BJP’s term in the MCD nears an end, BJP councillors have been found shamelessly extorting money from the public in the name of demolition and house tax notices. The Aam Aadmi Party has stepped out to the ground to protect the people of Delhi from BJP’s harassment and are fighting back strongly. AAP’s Kondli MLA Shri Kuldeep Kumar said, “BJP is sending demolition notices to even two-year-old houses; house tax notices being sent to such places where house tax has never been charged. BJP Councillors have only 20 days left in power, so they are putting all their might to mint money by threatening people and taking bribes for lenters. AAP won’t tolerate BJP’s Gunda Raj; AAP MLAs will protect Delhiites from extortion and catch hold of BJP’s goons. Appeal to the people of Delhi, if BJP threatens to run a bulldozer over your house, call the police and the AAP immediately; Aam Aadmi Party is with you, we will support you.” At the same time, AAP’s Jangpura MLA Shri Praveen Kumar stated, “BJP goons are barging into people’s homes in Jangpura and asking them to pay ransom if they don’t want their house to be demolished. AAP and its MLAs are here to fight through these tough times with the people of Delhi; we will not let injustice take place in Delhi.” While, AAP’s Matiala MLA Shri Gulab Singh said, “BJP-ruled MCD has broken several shops in Sector 6 market; shopkeepers pleading that their shops were demolished because they didn’t pay bribes. Aam Aadmi Party will oppose BJP’s goons, we will gherao the houses of their Mayors and Councillors.”

AAP Senior Leader and MLA Shri Kuldeep Kumar said, “The BJP has created such a hostile environment in the National Capital of Delhi, that people are living in a constant state of fear. The BJP has held power in the MCD for the past 15 years, a period of flagrant misgovernance and corruption which was destined to end by now. However, by hook or by crook the BJP devised a scheme to avoid its embarrassing defeat in the 2022 MCD elections and deferred them. Now the last few days that the BJP has left in the MCD will also expire on 18th of May, giving them a mere 20 days to grasp whatever little power and authority it has remaining. Given the final countdown to being thrown out of the MCD, all BJP councillors and workers have resolved to plunder and illegally extort money from the people of Delhi in the name of property construction by harassing and bullying them. Various instances of such intimidation by the BJP have come to light – I have received endless phone calls from people in my own constituency reporting how BJP councillors and leaders are demanding large amounts of money from them, threatening them with demolition of their homes and shops.”

He added, “It is interesting to note that the BJP is not even sparing the very properties it has already made crores off through bribes and extortion; the establishments which have been around for over 2-3 years now. People from areas including Kondli, New Kondli and Phase 3 are reaching out to me, sharing their grievances of how the BJP is torturing and harassing them regularly for extortion. BJP-led MCD’s incessant looting and plundering of the entire National Capital is in full swing. The BJP must take this as a warning – that their ultimate moments are upon them, that they must stop bothering the innocent people of Delhi out of their endless greed. I have informed every single resident in my constituency to immediately report any BJP councillor or their goons that dare to threaten them with demolition to extort money; that we will step forward, help them out, and protect their interests and homes.”

He further said, “Some people are being sent notices over properties which have been around for years now, some other people are being harassed over minor issues as the BJP is now demanding house tax from places where it is inapplicable. The BJP is hell bent on looting the entire state of Delhi now that it is well aware that its term is about to end, and that it will lose all power and authority to bully people into submission and extortion after 20 odd days. This is the fear that they were harbouring which led them to run away from the elections in the first place. I would like to tell BJP Delhi state president Adesh Gupta – you must stop terrorising the people of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party is standing with them against your tyrannical antics; the moment your councillors reach any property demanding money from them, we will protect them from your hooliganism. We will not let the reckless bribery and corruption, violence and intimidation continue at the hands of BJP councillors. Over the past 15 years, the BJP has itself enabled construction of illegal properties by demanding large amounts of money – to them, a settlement is legal as long as it provides them with an inflow of cash, and illegal if it does not. If any such incident takes place, I appeal to the people in my constituency of Kondli as well as all over Delhi to immediately report BJP’s hooliganism to the police and inform us so that we can fight for you.”

Jangpura MLA Shri Praveen Kumar said, “we’ve all seen how BJP has stooped down to the level of bulldozer politics and is threatening innocent people of demolishing their homes. BJP has sold all its shame and is hell bent on seeking vengeance from the public for supporting the Aam Aadmi Party. They are targeting the weaker sections of the society in specific. In particular small shopkeepers and families that live inside small colonies or even those who live in jhuggis. BJP’s goons are going and threatening people of razing down all that they have built if they don’t pay them up.”

He added, “Recently, the whole country saw the plight of one Gupta Ji of Jahangirpuri whose perfectly legal shop was reduced to ruins by the BJP’s bulldozer. They have now made an example out of him. They are barging into homes and asking for ransom. I want to reinforce that the Aam Aadmi Party and its workers are here in solidarity with Delhiites. If anyone dares to extort money from any resident of Delhi, then please bring it to the notice of the AAP. All our MLAs, Councillors and workers are here to protect you. We will in no manner let anyone bring injustice to Delhi. The people of Delhi are very honest, they don’t deserve this. We will stand with the public and retaliate against the BJP’s hooliganism if need be.”

Matiala MLA Shri Gulab Singh said, “Yesterday, a major incident took place at the Sector 6 Market in my constituency near the Post Office. Both councillors of Dwarka belong to the BJP in this area and they ordered the demolition of countless shops in the Sector 6 market yesterday. This bulldozing caused a significant amount of damage to the property of several shopkeepers, completely ruining their livelihood, who were afraid to even speak up against the injustice that they were subjected to by the BJP. When we spoke with the shopkeepers, they all said that they demanded large sums of money and that their shops were severely damaged when they refused to pay. The shopkeepers have lost between Rs 20 and Rs 25 lakhs. The BJP has turned to shameless threats and hooliganism to accomplish its money-minded goals. Their goons are waging bulldozer politics throughout Delhi; it’s all a game of extortion to them. The Aam Aadmi Party staunchly opposes BJP’s misgovernance and corruption. If we do not reach an agreement, we will gherao the councillors’ and mayor’s houses very soon.”
