The Aam Aadmi Party slammed the BJP after its criminal negligence and corruption led to the fourth fire of this month at the Bhalswa Landfill. AAP Senior Leader and MCD in-charge Shri Durgesh Pathak stated, “Around 14 fires have been reported this year but BJP seems to take no action. AAP demands an FIR for criminal negligence against the BJP; MCD’s incompetence actively endangering lives of Delhi residents. People living around the landfill are suffocating as the fire still hasn’t been put out. Residents fear that even a small ball of garbage can burn the whole colony right now. AAP Senior Leader and MCD In-Charge Shri Durgesh Pathak said, “In the past 15 years, the BJP has held power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, a period plagued with incompetence, inefficiency, and blatant misrule. Today, the biggest living proof of their misgovernance and flagrant corruption is the landfills one comes across whenever they enter Delhi from any direction, be it Haryana or UP. One is greeted and welcomed by these gigantic landfills upon arrival. In this past month, a fourth incident of a raging fire breakout took place at the Bhalswa landfill site. Even now, the fire continues to blaze despite regular efforts to douse it and all the neighbouring colonies have been engulfed in a looming cloud of smoke, making it difficult for them to breathe. People are afraid that if chunks of the burning garbage slides off and reaches their colonies, it could result in a grave fire incident in the area and endanger numerous lives.”
He added, “The Aam Aadmi Party has raised the issue of these frequent fire incidents in Delhi’s landfills several times and brought it to public notice. Over the past 15 years, matters like these have become an everyday occurrence, that these landfill sites, which are BJP’s sole gift to the people of Delhi, are catching fire out of nowhere, sending the people living around the localities into severe distress. In just this past one year, this landfill has caught fire around 14 times, but the BJP has turned a blind eye every single time. They have not taken a single step to even remotely signify that they are working on it. The BJP East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir is busy with his IPL shenanigans, and keeps tweeting arbitrary figures about the so-called reduction of the landfill without being present on ground to even monitor the situation. I appeal to Gautam Gambhir to please leave this IPL world behind, and focus on the troubles of the people who voted you to power; the same people who are now struggling to breathe as a result of your lack of action to dispose of the abominable landfill. Over the past 15 years, the BJP was repeatedly found lying in the courts about the timeline of landfill disposal, and not a single action has been taken till date.”
He continued, “Around 80 lac tonnes of waste is found in these landfills in our National Capital, but the BJP couldn’t be less bothered. All it is focused on is its greed-filled intentions and flagrant bribery and corruption. There was a massive scam of around 80 crores in the purchase of trommel machines for the cleaning up of the landfills by the BJP. There has been significant corruption in the waste management system and process as well, and as a result of these misdeeds at the hands of the BJP, the people of Delhi are now grappling to even breathe properly. Today, people living in the colonies in Delhi’s Kondli, Patparganj, Trilokpuri, Vishwas Nagar are deeply distressed with the current atmosphere, afraid that a fire could break out at any moment around them and endanger their lives. But the BJP is not concerned about the lives of these people in the slightest. A recent fire incident which was also brought to public notice caused 3 people to get trapped at the site as a result of the fire. Hence, these occurrences are nothing if not a result of BJP’s criminal negligence.”
He concluded, “We also recently probed BJP leaders and councillors through the medium of the Vidhan Sabha Environment Committee to present a status report on the disposal of these landfill, which they refused to produce. The reason behind this is simply that the BJP is knee deep in corruption when it comes to the waste management and disposal of these landfills, and hence it has no credible documents or status reports to share. All the money that’s been allotted for the cleaning up of these areas is being squandered, and every trace of garbage found in these landfills is proof of BJP’s rampant corruption and greed. The Aam Aadmi Party demands strict action against BJP’s mayors, councillors, leaders – an FIR must be registered against them for criminal negligence and they should be put behind bars. They are the reason that people’s already dismal living conditions in these areas have been consistently worsening. BJP’s lack of action is hazardous to their lives, compelling them to leave these areas to settle in other colonies just to stay alive, just to breathe. Hence, clearly, the situation is highly worrisome, and AAP demands a criminal proceeding against the perpetrator, which is the BJP, at the earliest.”
