Delhi’s streets have got flooded with trash just days after BJP’s Central Government took charge of MCD: MLA Vishesh Ravi

NEW DELHI

Symbolising BJP’s rising apathy for the people of Delhi, one can see trash mounted on the streets all over the state. Delhiites have been forced to see this day after the concerned agencies refused to take out the garbage due to non-payment by BJP’s Central Government. AAP Senior Leader and MCD in-charge Shri Durgesh Pathak informed that soon all the garbage management companies of Delhi will stop picking up trash from homes because of their long-standing dues. Charging towards the BJP for their mismanagement, he declared that if the trash is not cleared by today evening then AAP will pick all of it up and throw it outside the residence of BJP’s Adesh Gupta on Thursday. At the same time, AAP MLA Shri Vishesh Ravi stated that Delhi’s streets have got flooded with trash just days after BJP’s Central Government took charge of MCD and criticised the Centre’s handling of the civic body.

AAP Senior Leader and MCD In-Charge Shri Durgesh Pathak said, “The BJP has not left a single stone unturned in completely ransacking and laying waste to the National Capital over the past 15 years that it has been in the MCD. In Prime Minister Modi’s famous Swachhta Survey of 47 cities across the nation, it is despicable that Delhi has ranked 45th. The people of Delhi had grown extremely tired of the BJP’s misgovernance, and all they needed was a major change in leadership – for the MCD elections to bring in a new government at the MCD so that Delhi’s fortune would finally take a turn for the better. Being the National Capital, Delhi must be pristine and spotless, for it reflects on the entire country. If the capital itself is stained and polluted, it represents an equally damaged nation and sends a negative message to the world. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party used its shameless antics to defer the MCD elections which were certain to throw them out of power. And now, all its party leaders and councillors have dedicated their entire being to flagrant misgovernance and corruption. It is for the first time in Delhi’s history that a party has stopped giving funds to the company responsible for waste management and disposal in Delhi. All this money allocated for the disposal of garbage and landfills has been squandered by BJP leaders and councillors, dividing and pocketing it for their personal uses.”

He continued, “The latest feather in BJP’s cap of ransacking and polluting Delhi concerns the Karol Bagh zone which has 7 words. Three of these wards are in the Karol Bagh assembly, three in the Rajendra Nagar assembly, and one in the Ballimaran assembly. For the past ten days, garbage has not been collected in any of these seven wards. Such abysmal is the state of waste collection and management in Karol Bagh. Garbage is strewn around the community, around people’s homes; out on the streets. The locals are extremely troubled and irritated, and they are unable to leave their homes. The garbage collection has been assigned to a private company called Metro Waste Pvt. Ltd by the BJP-led MCD. When our legislators and campaigners called the company to find out why they were not picking up the trash, they were met with a wall of silence. The company responded by informing our campaigners that they were not being paid by the BJP to do their job anymore.”

Displaying images and documentation showing garbage stacks on Karol Bagh streets, he remarked, “Garbage collection in Delhi has come to a complete standstill. The Central Government published a notice after the unification of the three MCDs stating that ‘the Government means Central Government’. Hence, the Centre must now take up the burden of paying all of these companies so that waste collection and management in Delhi can resume at the earliest. If this does not happen, the situation in Delhi will undoubtedly deteriorate. This is the case with just one private company, but given the current situation, there is a high possibility of garbage collection in Delhi coming to a permanent halt next month since no company is being paid by the BJP administration.”

Warning the BJP, Shri Durgesh Pathak said, “The Aam Aadmi Party demands that this garbage be collected by this evening at the latest. If the BJP fails to deliver on this, the Aam Aadmi Party will pick up all of the trash and pile it in front of BJP president Adesh Gupta’s house tomorrow.”

MLA Shri Vishesh Ravi said, “Just a few days ago, there was a notification that the BJP-ruled Central Government will run the MCD after unifying its three divisions. And just a few days after the notification, an example of their ability to manage the civic body has been exposed in the open. For 10 continuous days, garbage has not been collected from seven wards of the state. It is a shame that this is happening in Delhi, the national capital of our country. MCD wasn’t collecting garbage properly earlier as well. But for the last 10 days in a row, the whole system has collapsed, not a single ounce of garbage has been collected. The situation now is so bad that in the morning when people leave for their office, these garbage piles come in their way. The local residents, including children, are being forced by the MCD to jump and hop over the garbage that is lying piled up on the roads.”

He added, “The citizens who reside in these areas where the garbage is piled up are falling sick because of several serious diseases. They have also complained about the stench from the garbage in their areas. The piled up garbage has also led to wild animals invading into colonies to feed off them. There are seven such wards which are suffering because of the BJP today. Three of these fall under the Karol Bagh Constituency namely, ward number 92, 93 and 94. In these three wards, the garbage has not been picked by the BJP-ruled MCD for over 10 days now.”

He concluded, “The citizens have been complaining that ‘If this is the situation just days after the Centre took over, then what will happen when the Central Government manages the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in the longer run. The AAP therefore urges the Central Government to urgently address this matter and listen to the complaints of the citizens of Delhi. Garbage management is one of the fundamental duties of the MCD and the BJP must realise it can not run away from it.”
