NEW DELHI:
BJP’s mismanagement of the MCD continues to worsen day by day. After not clearing dues of its garbage management companies, the BJP-ruled MCD snatched away the employment of 1,000 Safai Karamcharis giving no regard to the state of their households. AAP Senior Leader and MCD in-charge Shri Durgesh Pathak stated, “250 housekeeping employees of North MCD, 100 data entry operators of South MCD and the whole staff of East MCD Headquarters fired at the behest of BJP. After denying its services to the Karol Bagh zone, Metro Waste company refuses to collect garbage from North East Delhi too. BJP’s Central Government is on a rampage to create trash piles all over Delhi despite having promised a grievance free MCD after unification. Appeal to the Centre to immediately clear the dues of all companies and restore the jobs of all fired employees.” At the same time, East MCD LOP Shri Manoj Tyagi said, “The fired employees are under such distress and tension that they sat with me all night at my office seeking their jobs back with our support. Over 10 housekeepers were employed in each ward of North East Delhi, the number has been reduced to 5 causing the streets to be filled with trash.”
Shri Durgesh Pathak said, “When it was announced that the three MCDs would be merged, both the BJP units – whether it was the national unit or the state unit – said that the erstwhile problems of the MCD would now be resolved. The BJP said that the MCD would no longer face any problems, whether it was financial or of any other nature. But it looks like, since the merger of the MCD has taken place, the BJP has decided to punish the citizens of Delhi or are trying to take some form of revenge with the citizens of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party recently pointed out that the Metro Waste Company had not been collecting garbage from seven wards in the Karol Bagh area for the last 10 days. Similarly now, another company named AG Enviro has said that the MCDs have not paid its dues for a while now and therefore they would stop collecting garbage in the city in the next 7-10 days.”
He continued, “Earlier today, in the Northeast zone that comes under the East MCD, Metro Waste Company announced that in the next one week, it would stop collecting garbage from the area. The situation now is such that if this issue is not resolved in the next 15-20 days, we will see garbage lying around everywhere on the streets of Delhi. The situation is only getting worse, and the people of the city seem to be facing a difficult time.”
He further said, “Surprisingly, another dangerous step that the BJP has taken in this period is to remove Safai Karamcharis from their jobs. Around 250 workers who were on contract in the North MCD, mostly the Housekeeping Staffers, have been removed by the BJP. Several date entry operators in the South MCD have also been removed from their jobs. All the contractual workers of the East MCD headquarter have also been asked to not come to work anymore. What is happening right now is the opposite of BJP’s false claim of ‘solving all the issues of the people of Delhi’. The problems of the people of the city only seem to be increasing at the moment. The BJP has approximately removed 1,000-1,200 workers from their jobs, and that too just two years after the COVID-19 pandemic struck the nation and the condition of the economy seems to be at a low point. How will these workers and their families manage without a job in these difficult times? Also, there is no one to collect the garbage in the city at the moment. Basically the BJP has mismanaged this entire situation. On the one hand, they have fired people from their jobs, and on the other hand, they have no one to collect the garbage. Due to their mismanagement, the city right now is strewn around with garbage.”
Shri Durgesh Pathak concluded, “The AAP requests the BJP and the Central Government to intervene and resolve this issue. Otherwise all of Delhi, which is our capital, will turn into a garbage capital. We urge the Central Government to pay the pending dues of all these companies that collect garbage and to ensure that the city is clean again. We also request them to not take away the jobs of employees in this difficult period.”
East MCD LOP Shri Manoj Tyagi said, “After the BJP merged all the three MCDs, it was claimed that after the unification all the issues of the MCD would be resolved. But in reality, it looks like the BJP has done this to leave people without jobs and to leave them to die out of hunger. Today all employees of the EDMC are worried about their salaries and their working conditions. Today, in the Northeast area in Shahdara North Zone, where in a single ward we would earlier have 12-15 tippers, there are just 5 tippers to collect the garbage. Because of this, there is garbage strewn around in all the street corners of the area.
He added, “Earlier, the BJP workers took large bribes to give the contract to Metro Waste Company, and today they are asking for more money to pay these companies in the name of payment. Because of lack of payment, the company has reduced the number of tippers, and therefore there is waste strewn around in all the street corners. On top of this, this company has said that it will not collect the waste that is lying around on the streets – and this goes against what is written in the contract. This makes one wonder how much bribe these companies paid to the BJP workers that they are not able to get them to do the work that they had been assigned for. We would like to request the BJP to intervene and resolve this deadlock and to get their streets of Delhi cleaned up. We also want them to give back the jobs of the contractual workers that they had taken away.”
