The Aam Aadmi Party lashed out at the BJP for going all out to protect a goon today. The party accused the BJP of abusing state machinery to prevent the arrest of a hate-monger. AAP Senior Leader and MLA Ms Atishi said, “Delhi & Haryana Police’s illegal action to prevent the arrest of Tajinder Bagga exposes BJP’s real face. BJP can go to any length to protect its goons, rioters and thugs. BJP left no stone unturned to protect bona fide goon and hate-monger Tajinder Bagga. Punjab Police has registered a case against Tajinder Bagga for inciting communal riots. Punjab Police summoned Tajinder Bagga five times following due procedure, but he refused to join the investigation. When Punjab Police informed Delhi Police about their action at the Janakpuri thana, they were illegally detained. BJP is putting all its might to protect this goon because it is a party full of bigger Gundas and vandals.” At the same time, AAP Chief Spokesperson Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj stated, “BJP falsely claims this to be vendetta politics because this is how they use state machinery to fulfill their evil goals. It is now a day to day thing for opposition leaders to get NIA, ED & Income Tax summons and raids.”
AAP Senior Leader and MLA Ms Atishi said, “The Aam Aadmi Party has repeatedly raised the issue of BJP’s flagrant hooliganism over the past few weeks. Given its recent actions involving violence, extortion, and intimidation, it has become increasingly clear that BJP is nothing but a party of thugs, lunatics, and criminals and a party which has leaders who actively instigate violence, vandalism, and riots. These claims are no longer political allegations being made by AAP alone, but the entire population of our country is now echoing these sentiments for it is fed up with BJP’s hooliganism and hate mongering.”
She added, “One such BJP leader who is actively seen enabling violence and hooliganism in the party is Shri Tajinder Bagga. He is a prime example of BJP’s questionable values, morals and its hate-filled agenda. He is the same politician who broke into the Supreme Court premises and attacked an innocent lawyer. He also interrupted and attacked people at a program going on at the Ramlila Maidan. He is the same BJP leader who barged in on a book launch and launched an unwarranted attack on the poor author. He is the same Tajinder Bagga who has a criminal case against him for igniting riots at one of Amit Shah’s roadshows; who has cases pending against him under IPC Section 452 for forcing entry into someone’s home back in January 2014 and attacking them, as well as under IPC Section 153A for inciting riots, spreading communal disharmony, and for creating a tense atmosphere in the name of religion, caste, and community. He also has a case registered against him in the Patiala House Court under IPC Section 153 for giving inflammatory speeches with the intent of instigating riot-like situations. This list of instances of hate speech, hate mongering, and crimes committed by Shri Tajinder Bagga is so long that our entire day will pass if I begin to read them all out.”
She further said, “The Punjab Police filed a case against the aforementioned BJP leader and infamous violence mongerer Shri Tajinder Singh Bagga because of his relentless efforts to tarnish the slowly improving political atmosphere of the state. He tried his best to incite communal disharmony and violence, due to which the Punjab Police registered a case against him. As per the legal procedure, Tajinder Bagga was summoned five times to cooperate under the investigation, which is blatantly ignored every time. Due to his failure to show up and cooperate, the Punjab Police was compelled to issue an arrest warrant against him according to the standard legal procedure, and reached Delhi to proceed with Tajinder Bagga’s arrest. The Punjab Police also informed the Delhi Police as required by the rule of law, but given the BJP’s leash over the Delhi Police, they did their level best to protect Tajinder Bagga.”
She continued, “BJP, the same party which enables criminals and gives them a platform and career as politicians as well as rewards goons for committing acts of violence and vandalism, exercised its full control over the Delhi Police. Hence, they did not leave a single stone unturned in shielding the interests of Tajinder Bagga, completely excusing and even enabling his hooliganism and hate mongering. When the Punjab Police reached the Janakpuri police station to alert the Delhi Police, they were illegally detained. The Punjab Police followed due process to inform the Delhi Police, but the BJP and Amit Shah controlled Delhi Police illegally detained the Punjab Police itself in order to protect a criminal belonging to the BJP.”
Ms Atishi added, “Today morning, when the Punjab Police arrested Tajinder Bagga to take him to Punjab to be presented in front of the magistrate, the BJP yet again interfered with the help of the Haryana Police to stop the Punjab Police on their way. These recent actions of the BJP have clearly proven that it is ready to pull any and all strings in order to protect a petty criminal and hate mongering politician that belongs to their party. This is not in the least bit surprising given the BJP’s status of being a party of goons, lunatics, and criminals who are hell bent on causing riots and violence in every corner of the country. So whenever these thugs or miscreants belonging to the BJP are caught, the BJP uses its full political and governmental power at every level and even goes as far as using illegal methods to protect the interests of these criminals.”
She concluded, “The illegal measures taken by the BJP, the Delhi Police, and the Haryana Police in order to protect Tajinder Bagga today have exposed BJP’s true face to the entire nation – that the BJP gives a safe haven to those who cause and indulge in hooliganism, violence, vandalism, riots, or any other form of criminal activities, and that it is willing to go to any lengths to safeguard these thugs that belong to its Gunda Raj party.”
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga is a man of dubious repute, rather even, a man of disrepute. If you look at his twitter and facebook profiles, you will realise that his USP is using cheap and abusive language, misbehaving with people, hate mongering, and furthering religious divides through fake news. In 2011, this vile man, beat up a 70-year old lawyer inside the Supreme Court with two of his friends. Leave everything aside, think what courage must this man have that he needed a team of 3 goons against a senior citizen. Then in 2011 again they created a ruckus at Ramlila Maidan. In 2019, they were found committing violence during Amit Shah’s Kolkata roadshow for Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, an FIR under section 452 was registered against him for forcefully barging into someone’s house in the Tilak Marg police station. In 2018, Bagga was booked under relevant sections of the IPC, including 153-A for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place, etc at the Tughlaq Road PS. This was filed by the Delhi Police itself. In 2019, the Patiala House Court found him to be guilty of hate speech under Section 153-A. He was also found guilty under section 323 – voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal conspiracy under section 120B. Bagga’s dossier of crimes is very similar in size to that of established criminals and to think any less of him would be a mistake.”
He continued, “Bagga over the recent past has tried his best to spread hate and animosity in Punjab. Which is why the Punjab Police filed a case against him. Following due procedure, the police asked him to join the investigation. He was summoned repeatedly, handed over summons at his home but he refused to join the investigation. The BJP themselves cried in the media about Punjab Police visiting his home. He refused to join a legal procedure despite being summoned 5 times for it. The Punjab Police thus had no option but to arrest him. I can assure you with great responsibility that the police are working in a free and fair manner. He went to every court he could to seek anticipatory bail and stay on his arrest but looking at his record even the court did not help him.”
He concluded, “BJP’s false claims of crediting his arrest to politics is like a joke. BJP thinks that everyone is as bigoted and deranged like it is that they will use the state machinery for their benefit. BJP has a history of manhandling the state machinery, be it ED, Income Tax raids on opposition leaders before elections, be it illegal custody of leaders, NIA summons and any other possible trick in the book. This is BJP’s modus operandi, not AAP’s. If a government tries to work fairly, the BJP thinks they’re working in bad faith. This is not an action of revenge or vendetta but a due legal process that was impending for long.”
