New Delhi:
The Kejriwal Government, in a resolution of Delhi Transport Corporation Board, gave approval to induct 1500 Low Floor Electric Buses in its public transportation fleet today. The DTC Board had already provided approval for procurement of 921 buses under the Grand Challenge Scheme of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) which comes under FAME-II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicle) category and remaining 579 buses under non FAME-II category. For the 579 buses in non-FAME category, the Kejriwal Government will provide a subsidy of INR 262.04 crores at the same level as the FAME-II subsidy. In response to the tender floated by CESL on 20th January 2022, Tata Motors emerged as the most successful bidder for operation of these buses in Delhi and the Delhi Transport Corporation will soon sign the Master Concession Agreement with the company for deployment of these buses on Delhi Roads. The Delhi Government will also spend a total of INR 7,606.45 crores on operation, maintenance, and development of the infrastructure related to these buses.
The Board also decided to allocate 10 sites of DTC, namely Ambedkar Nagar Depot, Jal Vihar Terminal, Dilshad Garden Terminal, Karawal Nagar Terminal, Shadipur Depot, Mayapuri Depot, Bindpur Terminal, East Vinod Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, and Rohini Depot-I to various service providers for establishing EV charging and battery swapping stations under Delhi EV Policy 2020. Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) has identified 4 service providers through a competitive bidding process who will soon sign an agreement with DTC for setting up the EV charging/battery swapping stations in these locations.
The DTC Board also resolved to provide in-principle approval for procurement of 75 (38 Non-AC and 37 AC) CNG standard floor buses for inter-state operations. These buses will ply on 11 routes across 5 states (Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab) and 1 Union Territory (Chandigarh) between Delhi-Rishikesh, Delhi-Haridwar, Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Haldwani, Delhi-Agra, Delhi-Bareilly, Delhi-Lucknow, Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Panipat, and Delhi-Patiala.
In another historical resolution of the Board, it decided to enhance the stipend paid to the women candidates during training for engagement to the post of drivers on contract basis from INR 6,000 per month to INR 12,000 with HMV driving licence. It had already dropped the condition of holding an HMV driving licence for at least 03 years for women seeking employment as bus drivers in its fleet. The Kejriwal Government has also been providing free HMV licence training at its Burari Driver Training Institute to women.
Delhi Transport Minister and Chairman of the DTC Board Shri Kailash Gahlot stated, “Delhi is truly going through an EV revolution. With the induction of Electric Buses on such a large scale, augmentation of infrastructure and demand incentives to consumers, we don’t intend to leave any stone unturned in making Delhi the EV Capital of the world. With Inter-state services, we want to make travel more convenient for Delhiites to and from other states, as well as expand our quality services to other geographies. By bringing more women into our workforce and making them part of our transportation system, we also want to ensure that public transportation becomes safer and equitable for citizens of Delhi.”
