The 5-day “Hasya Ranga Utsava” organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad ended on May 31 with the popular play “Aye Mayavi Sarovar” written by Shankar Shesh. The play left the audience in splits while addressing the very relevant topic of gender inequality and the plight of women across generations and social stratas. The event, which lasted from May 27 to May 31, focused on a variety of issues that required the public’s attention in order to effect change in society. Other plays performed during this event included, “Pati Gaye Ree Kathiawar” directed by Ajit Chouwdhary, “Andher Nagari” by Ajay Kumar, “Rasik Sampadak” by Veena Sharma, and “Apne Apne Daav” by Arvind Singh.
Speaking about the “Hasya Rang Utsava”, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “Over the years, theatre has played a very important role in changing the perception of society towards many issues. There are many popular plays written ages ago that are still relevant to society. At events like “Hasya Rang Utsava” our aim is to not only entertain the audience through such plays but also spread a positive message and create awareness about topics which need their attention.”
He added that Delhi Government’s Arts, Culture and Languages department along with Sahitya Kala Parishad is working diligently in this direction. The ACL Department is also in touch with community members to take note of their expectations for development of arts, culture and languages in Delhi.
Notably, the event was held in Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House and attracted a footfall of over 3000.
