Delhi Government will infuse life into Najafgarh drain through beautification and water treatment
Beautification, desilting and water treatment at Najafgarh Drain will help in bringing down the pollution levels of Yamuna significantly

In a major push to infuse life into Najafgarh drain, the Kejriwal Government will soon begin the work of beautifying and desilting of the drain. It will also get the water from the drain treated to reduce the pollution level in the Yamuna. Notably, the Najafgarh drain gets discharged in the Yamuna. In this regard, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia held a review meeting with the senior officials and technical team of Dredging Corporation of India on Thursday. The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary Irrigation and Flood Control Department Shri Ashish Kundra.
The specialists from Dredging Corporation of India inspected the Najafgarh drain on Thursday. The team of specialists will now do the data analysis and send its recommendations to the Delhi Government within a week. Thereafter the work of desilting of Najafgarh Drain as well as removal of water weeds from drain will be done in various phases.
Delhi Government is working towards rejuvenation and beautification of major drains flowing into the Yamuna. As a part of the crucial project Najafgarh Drain will be cleaned, beautified and will be converted into a clean water channel. Cleaning and beautification of Najafgarh drain will play a major role in cleaning of Yamuna which is one of the primary targets of the Delhi Government.
It is to be noted that the drain originates from Najafgarh Lake and joins Yamuna river in Wazirabad while traveling through Southwest, West and North Districts. It is also one of the biggest drains in the capital that gets discharged in the Yamuna.
