New Delhi:

The Kejriwal Government has set unmatchable standards of public education in the country today. So much so that political parties are trying to put hindrances in the course of its historic work out of fear. While replying to the fabricated issues raised by NCPCR against Desh Ke Mentor, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia stated — BJP has become an adversary of education; plotting to derail ‘Desh Ke Mentor’ program assisting thousands of Delhi Government school students in shaping their careers. BJP doesn’t want poor children to have a chance to attend world-class universities so it can spread hate & filth through its ‘WhatsApp University. BJP is terrified of the success of poor children through ‘Desh Ke Mentor’; stopping the program using a planted complaint of a BJP worker; program was helping to improve the careers of lakhs of children. BJP is giving ridiculous reasons to halt the ‘Desh Ke Mentor’ program; They want Kejriwal government to do police verification of poor government school students instead of giving them career guidance. BJP saying Desh Ke Mentor will increase the cases of ‘cyber crime and child trafficking’ while knowing mentors from reputed institutions like IITs and IIMs are guiding Delhi government school students under the program. BJP just wants to keep the youth of the country uneducated and entangled in the disputes of religion and caste, neither does it work on education itself, nor is allowing Kejriwal government to do it.

Dy CM Shri Manish Sisodia added that, they have given absolutely ridiculous reasons to stop this program. They want us to do police verification of students who are undergoing mentoring. We have a well designed process to assess and select mentors for our children of Delhi government schools. All those who apply for being mentors go through a psychometric test and then they are trained on all aspects of mentoring children. On the call of the Kejriwal government, 44,000 youths have joined this program. Of these, 500 mentors are IIT passouts, 500 are from IIMs across the country, 15,600 are those who are studying between graduation to Phd at India’s reputed colleges and 7,500 are those who have completed their studies and are doing good jobs. All these people want to nurture the next generation youth and help them choose the right path, and BJP says that they could be involved in some kind of crimes like cyber bullying or child trafficking. All the statements and directions from National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) are politically motivated and are illogical.

Exposing the roots of the complaint registered against the ‘Desh Ke Mentor’ program at NCPCR, Shri Sisodia said that the complainant in this case is none but a worker of BJP from Chhattisgarh. When they had sent us the notice, we replied to the commission clearly that we are taking all precautions for children’s safety and use specially designed psychometric tests to assess mentors. But they have sent another notice highlighting that mentees (who are students of Delhi government schools) are not undergoing police verification and mentors (who are from such reputed colleges and universities) might be involved in crimes related to children.

He added that BJP does not want today’s generation to choose the right path of education and development. They want to drag the country’s youth to cheap politics of religion and cast and push them in darkness. BJP leaders are worried that if the country’s youth will study, then who will react insensitively to their fake and provoking messages. BJP must keep their political agenda away from education and let the Kejriwal government work.

On the call of the Kejriwal Government, 44,000 youths have become mentors under the ‘Desh Ke Mentor’ program

‘Desh Ke Mentor’ program is the country’s largest mentoring program by the Kejriwal government. Its aim is to build a community of youth who are part of the culture of volunteering and are working to create spaces for students to have an open dialogue about their careers, opinions and everyday choices. Under this program students and professionals from educated backgrounds are given an opportunity to help or mentor a student/students (of Class 9-12) from Delhi government schools. Mentors counsel students about new age professions and job opportunities and how one can choose a correct path for their dream jobs or business. Most students are from such a background where parents or any other family member is not educated enough to guide them about new age career options.

Dy CM Shri Manish Sisodia said that all students who have got mentors have submitted consent letters from their parents. Also we have made sure that all female students are guided by female mentors and male students by male mentors. On our call, 44,000 youths have joined this program. Of these, 500 mentors are IIT passouts, 500 are from IIMs across the country, 15,600 are those who are studying between graduation to Phd at India’s reputed colleges and 7,500 are those who have completed their studies and are doing good jobs. All selected mentors have gone through psychometric tests and special training, before they are allotted students they are supposed to mentor. We have even rejected more than 750 people who applied for this program but failed the psychometric test.

Currently, 1.76 children are being mentored under this program and they are very happy, he added.

Ridiculous reasons given by BJP to stop ‘Desh Ke Mentor’ program

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the BJP says that the police verification of school children was not done. And the extent was reached when NCPCR said that it can lead to child trafficking and cybercrime. It simply means that if a young person from IIT or IIM guides the children of poor households to understand how they can go to IIT or IIM and achieve their dreams, this can lead to child trafficking and cybercrime according to the BJP. BJP must keep their political agenda away from education and let the Kejriwal government work. BJP has always been the enemy of education since their inception and now they want the Kejriwal government to stop showing the right path to the youth of the country, added Dy CM Shri Manish Sisodia.
