BJP-ruled MCD has been recklessly looting the people and state of Delhi, well aware of the fact that it is going to be voted out of power very soon. In light of the recent commercialization of land belonging to schools by the BJP-ruled MCD, AAP Senior Leader and MLA Shri Somnath Bharti said – the Aam Aadmi Party has demanded action against the sale of land belonging to schools by the BJP-ruled MCD in the DDA meeting. The DDA gave land to the MCD for development of schools, but it is extremely condemnable and unforgivable that the BJP-ruled MCD is selling it for commercial purposes. I raised the matter of BJP-ruled MCD selling schools at the DDA meeting and submitted a request to the LG in writing, asking him to save MCD’s schools. The DDA should take action on this, and hand over all of MCD’s schools to the Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi Government. AAP Senior Leader and MLA Shri Somnath Bharti said, “As my colleague and MLA from Karol Bagh, Shri Vishesh Ravi had tried to bring an important matter forward in order to inform the people of Delhi – that in its last remaining days in the MCD, the Bharatiya Janata Party is selling off MCD properties with commercial interests. Time and again, the Aam Aadmi Party has brought into public knowledge that various MCD properties are being sold by the BJP, knowing full well that the people of Delhi are not going to bring them back to power in the MCD, thanks to 15 years of their corruption-filled tenure. However, the most upsetting matter is that the BJP-ruled MCD has gone as far as selling school lands. On one hand the BJP has a mastery in the matter of selling public property and making quick money off of it. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party has a mastery in how to make schools, hospitals, work in the interests of the people, and how to benefit the people of Delhi.”
He continued, “The Aam Aadmi Party, under the leadership of Shri Arvind Kejriwal, brought about a new model of governance. Under this, the governance of schools, hospitals, mohalla clinics, roads, electricity, water, and women’s safety was transformed with this new model. In complete contrast to this, the BJP-ruled MCD is selling lands belonging to schools in which Delhi’s children are supposed to get educated. It is a matter of fact that the BJP is unable to manage the schools and hospitals that come under the MCD. This incompetence and mismanagement could easily have been fixed once the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in the MCD. But the BJP has fallen so far that they are selling the school land for commercial purposes. This is extremely sad and condemnable and betrayal for the people of Delhi. Delhi’s needy parents and their children have been cheated by the BJP-led MCD. On one hand, the Kejriwal Government’s commendable work in the rejuvenation of its schools is earning name across the world. On the other, the BJP, despite having been in power for over 15 years in the MCD, is trying its hardest to sell the land belonging to these schools for commercial interests.”
He further stated, “Today, a Delhi Development Authority meeting was held, which I attended as a member. The LG chairs these meetings. The land in Delhi principally belongs to the DDA, and it is the DDA which gives properties to everyone. So all this land which is now being sold by the MCD, must have been given by the DDA to the MCD at some point with the purpose of education, for building schools. I raised this matter at the DDA in front of the LG, that not only did the BJP-ruled MCD fail to rightly utilise the land which was meant for developing schools to provide education for the poor people of Delhi, but it went a step ahead in its incompetence in betraying Delhi’s public and is now determined to sell these properties. The BJP-ruled MCD now wishes to bring commercial establishments to replace schools. Governments in the world should take cognizance of how Shri Arvind Kejriwal made all possible efforts to build schools for the public and to give quality education to the poor people at par with the rich in Delhi; how he did his best to abide by Babasahab Ambedkar’s constitution in order to give everyone equal rights. In the same region, BJP is hell bent on selling land belonging to schools so that the poor people’s children cannot get educated.”
Shri Somnath Bharti concluded, “Hence, I requested DDA Chairman and LG Shri Anil Baijal to save these lands – the DDA should issue orders to all three commissioners and BJP’s mayors. It is a matter of two months before the MCD elections and the people of Delhi have made up their mind to hand the MCD over to the Aam Aadmi Party. So the BJP shouldn’t indulge in such antics in its last few days that it even sells off land belonging to schools meant for children. I have also submitted this in writing to the LG: ‘It has come to our knowledge that Municipal Corporations of Delhi are in the process of selling lands which are, at present, running schools. They are selling these lands for commercial purposes which is very disheartening because Delhi needs more schools and not commercial spaces, for the welfare of people, especially marginalised economically and otherwise. In view of the above, we have requested to ask the three MCDs for status on the same and direct handing over of such lands to the Delhi Government for building better schools.’ So, as I said, this is our mastery and we will deliver on it. I would also like to inform the BJP through this press conference that what they are doing is reprehensible and it is unforgivable that you sell land meant for educational purposes for commercial interests. As I have now raised this crucial matter in front of the LG, the DDA should answer and take action for the same.”
