NEW DELHI:

75 mighty Tirangas will now don upon the skies of Delhi to celebrate 75 years of Indian independence. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal today led the unfurling of 75 Tirangas placed at a height of 115 feet all over Delhi. At the occasion, the Chief Minister stated — we have installed the Tiranga at a height of 115 feet at 75 places in Delhi to pay homage to our freedom fighters. Our goal is to ensure that whenever someone steps out of their house they see a Tiranga in every direction they look. Seeing the Tiranga fly high with pride instils a stronger sense of Deshbhakti in everyone. Delhi is perhaps the only city in the world to have installed their national flag at such a large scale. We are examining our achievement, hopefully we have secured a record in the Guiness Book of World Records. I hope and pray that our mighty Tiranga will continue to fly higher and higher, and our country continues to prosper forever and ever. At the same time, PWD Minister Shri Satyendar Jain said that most flags have been installed at roads under the PWD to overcome challenges posed at roads owned by DDA, MCD and NDMC.

Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal led the unfurling of 75 Tirangas across Delhi today. The CM took part in a ceremony held in Timarpur to mark the grand occasion as its chief guest. He was accompanied by PWD Minister Shri Satyendar Jain along with local MLA Shri Dilip Pandey. The ceremony saw the Chief Minister unfurl the national flag on a 115 feet tall mast with full honours. The event was flanked by the Delhi Home Guard Battalion which added a strong patriotic fervour to the environment through its ceremonial salutes and guard of honour. As CM Shri Kejriwal unfurled the magnificent national flag through a remote control at Timarpur, the remaining 74 were also hoisted across Delhi.

Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “It is a day of great pride for the entire country. We are celebrating 75 years of independence and keeping that in mind today, 115 feet tall national flags have been hoisted at 75 different places throughout the National Capital. Our motive is that finally in the first phase, these national flags will be hoisted at 500 different locations. Our target was to achieve this goal by 26th January, but because there was a ban on construction activities due to pollution and the third COVID wave, it will now take place over the next few months. And the Tiranga will fly high with pride at 500 different locations in the near future. Our objective is that whenever someone steps out of their homes in Delhi to go to work, they spot the Tiranga at least 2-3 times on their way.”

He continued, “Whenever we look at the Tiranga, an overwhelming feeling of patriotism arises within us. We are so caught up in our everyday lives, with families and friends, with work that we forget our country, our society. Now, every time a common person will look up at the Tiranga, it will remind them of patriotism, of our country, and of all those freedom fighters who gave everything they had fighting for India’s independence. Delhi is the only city in the entire world where its country’s national flag is hoisted at such a large scale, measuring 115 feet. We are examining this comparison, which might even end up in the Guinness Book of World Records. Delhi’s name will go down in the record as the only city where national flags have been hoisted to such a great extent and height. I congratulate the people of Delhi, and the people of our country. I felt elated watching the flag get hoisted today. I hope and pray that the mighty Tiranga dons upon our skies forever and ever.”

Sharing more on the project, PWD Minister Shri Satyendar Jain said, “We identified 75 locations on key intersections, in schools, on main roads, to ensure that every single resident of Delhi comes across these little monuments of pride in their neighbourhoods or while travelling even within a range of 2 kms. The tiranga is a constant reminder of the unity in our diversity. It should and will be honoured.”

The department had taken into cognizance the 2002 Flag Code of India rules that pertain to the laws and practises around the display of the national flag. “Abiding with the flag code rules, illuminating the flag with adequate lighting was given priority. Each foundation was painted red and white,” added the PWD Minister.

The Delhi Government has executed this colossal project largely on PWD roads under its purview. The project has been executed while overcoming challenges of the multiplicity of road owning agencies in Delhi, like the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), both of which are under the control of the Central Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

500 national flags will be installed in every district of Delhi

On the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence, the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, unveiled a ‘Deshbhakti Budget’ of Rs 69 thousand crore for the fiscal year 2021-22. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the Government of Delhi’s Public Works Department decided to install massive Tirangas at 75 different locations throughout the city. These tricolours will be flown proudly at a height of 115 feet in the air. This is the first phase of the Delhi government’s National Flag Project. Aside from that, at a cost of Rs. 104 crores, a total of 500 flags will be installed in each district of Delhi.
