F&S Minister Imran Hussain directs the Weights & Measurement Department to ensure display of citizen charter at prominent locations, proper name and designation of the officers concerned in the premises

New Delhi:

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shri Imran Hussain conducted a surprise inspection of the District Zonal Office of Weights and Measurement Department with a secondary lab located at Tilak Nagar. During the inspection, the Minister observed less attendance of the officials and employees in the office premises. He expressed serious concern about the cleanliness and hygiene in the office premises considering the sensitivity of the measuring instrument. Imran Hussain asked the officers of the departments to do regular checking, an inspection of work, records and maintain hygiene in office premises. He directed that the department must ensure the attendance of their subordinate employees from time to time so that there should be transparency in the work. He said that strict action will be taken against the officers and employees who do not reach the offices on time and any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.

During the inspection, the Food & Civil Supplies Minister personally enquired about the measurement equipment including its technical aspects maintained by Weights & Measurement Department, Government of Delhi. The measuring instrument /Testing Unit in the Laboratory of the District office were not maintained properly and the functioning of calibration equipment also not found upto the mark, which is primarily meant to be open for calibrating the instruments. When the Minister sought an explanation from the Officials concerned, they could not offer any immediate cogent reasons for the same. Apart from this, the Minister also directed the Weights & Measurement Department to make all the non-functional measuring instruments to be fully functional expeditiously so that residents of Delhi obtain products with accurate weights.

F&S Minister directed for calling explanations of the concerned Legal Metrological Officer and Assistant Controller for incorrect measurement and non-functioning of the standard measurement unit.

He also directed the Controller(Weights Measurement) to conduct a detailed inquiry on the irregularities noticed during the inspection and submit the compliance report through the secretary(Legal Metrology) within three working days.

The F & S Minister further directed Weights and Measurement Department officers to ensure that the norms of Packaged Commodity Rules are strictly being followed by the shopkeepers/manufacturers/dealers. He said that the Department will also ensure that only verified/stamped,electronic/manual/weighing instruments are being used by them. In case of violation, strict prosecution action will be taken. He directed the Weights and Measures Department to ensure that residents of Delhi obtain products with accurate weights.

Shri Imran Hussain directed the Weights & Measurement Department to ensure display of citizen charter at prominent locations, proper name and designation of the officers/ officials concerned in the premises, facilities for the convenience of the public etc. He stressed the need for training and sensitising its officers/ officials regarding public service orientation and ensuring proper cooperation to the public.
