New Delhi. The Indian hockey team performed amazingly by defeating Pakistan 4-3 in the bronze medal match of the Asian Champions Trophy. In this very exciting match played in Dhaka, the score was tied at 1-1 till half time, but in the last two quarters, the players of both the teams showed an aggressive game. Manpreet Singh, Sumit, Varun Kumar and Akashdeep Singh scored for India while Abdul Rana, Afraz and Ahmed Nadeem scored for Pakistan.
India started off aggressively and got 3 penalty corners within a minute. Manpreet Singh converted a penalty corner in the second minute to give India the lead. However, Pakistan also scored a goal before the end of the first quarter to level the score at 1-1. Afraz scored this field goal for Pakistan.
No goal was scored in the second quarter, as the score remained tied at 1-1 till half time. In the third quarter, Pakistan got a penalty corner and Abdul Rana made no mistake in converting it into a goal. After 33 minutes the score became 2-1 in favor of Pakistan. Sumit leveled India even before the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, when Junaid of Pakistan was dismissed for 2 minutes, India got a penalty corner, but it did not convert into a goal. After this, Varun Kumar scored a powerful goal on the penalty corner, which made the score 3-2. After this, India made the score 4-2 with Akashdeep Singh’s goal. Then Ahmed Nadeem scored the third goal of the Pakistan team. India finally won the bronze medal, registering a 4-3 victory.
The Indian team was considered a contender to win the title in the Asian Champions Trophy for the third time in a row this year, but had to face defeat in the semi-finals. India lost 3-5 to Japan in the semi-finals played on Tuesday. The team, captained by Manpreet Singh, beat Japan 6-0 in their group game, but could not maintain the same momentum in the semi-finals.
